Disney released a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/a><\/i> today, and it consists almost entirely of new footage from the film. It also hints at an extra Bible-movie connection that I hadn\u2019t anticipated. Check it out below the jump.<\/p>\n
Here is the new trailer:<\/p>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\nThe opening scene is set at the foot of a mountain:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mountain.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53213\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mountain-1024x428.png\" alt=\"starwars-rogueone-mountain\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53213\"><\/a><\/p>\nI was immediately reminded of Methuselah\u2019s mountain from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/noah-2014\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Noah<\/a><\/i>:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/noah-mountain.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53212\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/noah-mountain-1024x555.png\" alt=\"noah-mountain\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53212\"><\/a><\/p>\nAnd sure enough, last year there were <a href=\"http:\/\/icelandmonitor.mbl.is\/news\/culture_and_living\/2015\/09\/20\/new_star_wars_being_filmed_in_iceland\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">reports<\/a> that Rogue One<\/i> was being filmed near Hafursey, the same Icelandic mountain that was used as a location in Noah<\/i>.<\/p>\nThere are even more<\/i> interesting coincidences here.<\/p>\nOne of the characters in this scene is Galen Erso, played by Mads Mikkelsen:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mikkelsen.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53218\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mikkelsen-1024x429.png\" alt=\"starwars-rogueone-mikkelsen\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53218\"><\/a><\/p>\nMikkelsen recently played Hannibal Lecter in the TV series Hannibal<\/i>. In Noah<\/i>, Hafursey was the home of Methuselah, who was played by Anthony Hopkins\u2026 who famously played Hannibal Lecter in three films between 1991 and 2002.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/vlcsnap-2013-11-14-11h09m54s155.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53216\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/vlcsnap-2013-11-14-11h09m54s155-1024x550.png\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2013-11-14-11h09m54s155\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53216\"><\/a><\/p>\nThe other main character at the foot of the mountain in this scene from Rogue One<\/i> is an Imperial bigshot named Orson Krennic, played by Ben Mendelsohn:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mendelsohn2.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53217\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-mendelsohn2-1024x429.png\" alt=\"starwars-rogueone-mendelsohn2\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53217\"><\/a><\/p>\nAnd of course, Mendelsohn played the Egyptian bigshot Hegep in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/exodus-2015\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Exodus: Gods and Kings<\/a><\/i> \u2014 so Rogue One<\/i> is taking an actor from one of 2014\u2019s big Bible epics and putting him in a key location from 2014\u2019s other<\/i> big Bible epic.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/exodus-hegep.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53215\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/exodus-hegep-1024x424.png\" alt=\"exodus-hegep\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53215\"><\/a><\/p>\nClick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2015\/12\/how-many-star-wars-actors-have-also-been-in-bible-movies.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> for a list of other Star Wars<\/i> co-stars who have appeared in Bible movies.<\/p>\nI am also intrigued by this image of a fallen colossal statue of a Jedi Knight:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-statue.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53236\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-statue-1024x429.png\" alt=\"starwars-rogueone-statue\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53236\"><\/a><\/p>\nOh, and look, we might actually get a space battle this time! (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/star-wars-episode-vii\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Force Awakens<\/a><\/i> was noticeably lacking in space battles. Between that film and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/star-trek-into-darkness\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Star Trek into Darkness<\/a><\/i>, which stupidly put the Enterprise<\/i> underwater, you\u2019d almost think JJ Abrams thought the best thing you can do with a spaceship is to take it out of outer space.)<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-spacebattle.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53219\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/10\/starwars-rogueone-spacebattle-1024x429.png\" alt=\"starwars-rogueone-spacebattle\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53219\"><\/a><\/p>\nIt\u2019s worth noting that the new trailer has almost nothing in common with the earlier trailers.
