Happy New Year!<\/p>\n

Last year<\/a>, for the first time, I compiled two lists of my most-viewed blog posts from the year that had just ended: one list covered the top ten posts from this blog\u2019s entire archive, while the other covered the top ten posts that had been written in 2015.<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s time for the 2016 lists. And here they are:<\/p>\n

The 10 most-viewed posts in 2016, regardless of when they were written:<\/b><\/p>\n

1. History and tradition in movie depictions of the cross<\/a> (April 2013)<\/p>\n

This one\u2019s a perennial, and there were a few new films to add to the list this year.<\/p>\n

2. Review: God\u2019s Not Dead 2<\/i> (dir. Harold Cronk, 2016)<\/a> (March 2016)<\/p>\n

Mine was one of the first reviews posted at Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n

3. The death, resurrection, and second death of Lazarus<\/a> (June 2013)<\/p>\n

I still<\/i> have no idea why this post has been so popular the last two years.<\/p>\n

4. Review: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/i> (dir. Zack Snyder, 2016)<\/a> (March 2016)<\/p>\n

My review of this disappointing film got a lot more comments than I expected.<\/p>\n

5. First look: The Young Messiah<\/i>, based on Anne Rice\u2019s Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt<\/i>. (And yes, the film has a new title.)<\/a> (September 2015)<\/p>\n

There was a lot of renewed interest in this post when the film came out in March.<\/p>\n

6. X-Men: Apocalypse<\/i> and the legend of Nimrod\u2019s arrows<\/a> (May 2016)<\/p>\n

I\u2019m always happy to note the overlap between Bible movies and superhero movies.<\/p>\n

7. X-Men: Apocalypse<\/i> buzz: Is God the villain? Is Nightcrawler no longer a Catholic? Here\u2019s why I\u2019m not worried\u2026 yet.<\/a> (July 2015)<\/p>\n

There was a lot of renewed interest in this post when the film came out in May.<\/p>\n

8. Pride & Prejudice: two versions!<\/a> (November 2005)<\/p>\n

Bizarrely, interest in this decade-old post \u2014 which concerns the Joe Wright adaptation of Jane Austen\u2019s novel that starred Keira Knightley \u2014 surged for a while around the time that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies<\/i> came out in February.<\/p>\n

9. How the movie Heaven Is for Real<\/i> contradicts the book<\/a> (April 2014)<\/p>\n

This analysis of the changes that the film made to the true story was my #1 post by far in 2014 and 2015, and as you can see, interest didn\u2019t completely die off in 2016.<\/p>\n

10. Full of Grace<\/i>, a movie about the Virgin Mary set one decade after the gospels, is coming to theatres early next year<\/a> (September 2015)<\/p>\n

This film came to DVD in 2016. I have seen it but, alas, have not reviewed it yet.<\/p>\n

5. Risen<\/i>: a scene guide (with clips and scriptural references)<\/a> (February 2016)<\/p>\n

I enjoyed charting how this film combines elements from the gospels and the book of Acts \u2014 and how it sometimes tweaks what the scriptures say.<\/p>\n

6. Watch: Jesus gives Judah Ben-Hur a drink of water in a new \u201cepic faith\u201d trailer for the upcoming Ben-Hur<\/i> remake<\/a> (March 2016)<\/p>\n

This post compares the drink-of-water scene in three different versions of Ben-Hur<\/i>.<\/p>\n

7. Mel Gibson reportedly cuts profanity from his World War II movie Hacksaw Ridge<\/i> to make it more Christian-friendly<\/a> (August 2016)<\/p>\n

There was a lot of interest in this film in the three months before it came out.<\/p>\n

8. Interview: Pastor Chris Whaley (The Masked Saint<\/i>, 2016)<\/a> (January 2016)<\/p>\n

A surprisingly fun interview with the man behind an offbeat \u201cfaith-based\u201d film.<\/p>\n

9. Listen: Trisha Yearwood sings \u2018Broken\u2019 from The Passion<\/i><\/a> (February 2016)<\/p>\n

Would you believe I still<\/i> haven\u2019t watched this musical TV special?<\/p>\n

10. Review: Hail, Caesar!<\/i> (dir. Joel & Ethan Coen, 2016)<\/a> (February 2016)<\/p>\n

This was the first of several \u201cBible movies\u201d this year, and quite possibly the best.<\/p>\n
