1.<\/a> Steven Soderbergh says Cleo<\/a><\/i>, his recently-announced 3-D musical about the ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra, will be inspired on some level by the classic film noir Gilda<\/a><\/i> (1946). \u2014 Anne Thompson<\/a>, Karina Longworth<\/a><\/p>\n

2.<\/a> Malek Akkad, whose father directed the Mohammed biopic The Message<\/a><\/i> (1976), says the recently-announced Mohammed biopic The Messenger of Peace<\/a><\/i> will not<\/i> be a remake of his father\u2019s film, despite earlier reports that suggested it would<\/i> be a remake. \u2014 New York Times<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n

3.<\/a> Dante\u2019s Inferno<\/i><\/a> continues to attract filmmakers, and others. A 2007 film<\/a> made with puppets came out on DVD<\/a> a couple months ago, and Universal has just bought the rights to an upcoming Electronic Arts video game that will be based in some way on Dante\u2019s \u201cjourney through the depths of hell.\u201d \u2014 Soul Food Movies<\/a>, Variety<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n

4.<\/a> Max Allan Collins has written and will direct two sequels to The Road to Perdition<\/i> (2002; my review<\/a>). Collins wrote the graphic novel<\/a> on which the original film was based, and he also wrote the novelization<\/a> of the film, which departed from his graphic novel in significant ways. It sounds like the sequels \u2014 called The Road to Purgatory<\/a><\/i> and The Road to Paradise<\/a><\/i>, and presumably based on the novels of those names \u2014 will imagine a different future for the Michael Sullivan Jr. character than the epilogue to the graphic novel did. \u2014 The Hollywood News<\/a>, Variety<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
