There are two Bible-themed movies coming out in November \u2014 just six months from now \u2014 and so far there have been no trailers or clips for either film.<\/p>\n
But journalists at the Cannes film festival got a sneak peek at one film yesterday, when Focus Features showed them a promo reel for Mary Magdalene<\/a><\/i>, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus and Rooney Mara as Jesus\u2019 most famous female follower.<\/p>\n
I haven\u2019t seen much in the way of detailed<\/i> descriptions of the footage in question, but a few movie journalists have posted brief reactions. Variety<\/a><\/i>\u2019s Brent Lang called Phoenix\u2019s Jesus \u201cethereal\u201d and Mara\u2019s Magdalene \u201cempowered\u201d, and Vulture\u2019s Kyle Buchanan<\/a> said Phoenix\u2019s Jesus comes across as \u201ckind of a bemused hippie?\u201d<\/p>\n

Also impressed by a promo reel for Mary Magdalene, starring Rooney Mara with Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus. No seriously, looks damn good.<\/p>\n
