height=\"413\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-56362\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><b>The Star<\/b><\/i> stayed bright with a little help from the American Thanksgiving this week.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The film, which depicts Mary and Joseph\u2019s journey to Bethlehem from the animals\u2019 point of view, earned an estimated $6.9 million <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/weekend\/chart\/?view=&amp;yr=2017&amp;wknd=47&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">between Friday and Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a drop of 29.9% from the film\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2017\/11\/box-office-star-okay-faith-based-film-poorly-animated-film.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">opening weekend<\/a> \u2014 and while it might be one of the bigger drops percentage-wise among the week\u2019s top ten films,<sup>1<\/sup> it is also better than the second-week drops for many other \u201cfaith-based\u201d films that have opened in wide release, such as <i>Miracles from Heaven<\/i> (34.6%), <i>Heaven Is for Real<\/i> (36.3%), <i>The Shack<\/i> (38.1%), <i>Risen<\/i> (42.3%), <i>God\u2019s Not Dead 2<\/i> (44.4%), <i>Ben-Hur<\/i> (59.3%) and <i>Son of God<\/i> (59.5%).<\/p>\n<p>And considering that <i>The Star<\/i> had new animated competition from Disney-Pixar\u2019s <i><b>Coco<\/b><\/i> \u2014 which topped the week\u2019s chart with $49 million for the weekend and $71.2 million since Wednesday \u2014 one could argue that it held up as well as could be expected.<\/p>\n<p>The question now is whether <i>The Star<\/i> \u2014 which is, after all, about the first Christmas \u2014 can stay afloat until Christmas Day itself arrives four weeks from now.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Star<\/i> had the tenth-best opening of any \u201cfaith-based\u201d film last week, and this week, if the estimates hold, it will have the ninth-best second weekend:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"disc\">\n<li>2004 \u2014 <i>The Passion of the Christ<\/i> \u2014 $53.2 million\n<\/li><li>2014 \u2014 <i>Heaven Is for Real<\/i> \u2014 $14.4 million\n<\/li><li>2015 \u2014 <i>War Room<\/i> \u2014 $9.5 million\n<\/li><li>2014 \u2014 <i>God\u2019s Not Dead<\/i> \u2014 $8.8 million\n<\/li><li>2011 \u2014 <i>Soul Surfer<\/i> \u2014 $7.3 million\n<\/li><li><b>2017 \u2014 <i>The Star<\/i> \u2014 $6.9 million<\/b>\n<\/li><li>2016 \u2014 <i>Risen<\/i> \u2014 $6.8 million<\/li><\/ol>\n<p>.<br><i>The Star<\/i> has earned $22 million in total after ten days, and it thus now ranks 16th among <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/genres\/chart\/?id=christian.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" The film has earned another $894,603 overseas, for a global total of $70.3 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Thor: Ragnarok<\/b><\/i> earned $16.8 million and ranked fourth in its fourth week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $277.5 million. The film has earned another $512.6 million overseas, for a global total of $790.1 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Daddy\u2019s Home 2<\/b><\/i> earned $13.3 million and ranked fifth in its third week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $72.7 million. The film has earned another $15 million overseas, for a global total of $87.7 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Murder on the Orient Express<\/b><\/i> earned $13 million and ranked sixth in its third week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $74.2 million. The film has earned another $122.6 million overseas, for a global total of $196.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>A Bad Moms Christmas<\/b><\/i> earned $5 million and ranked eighth in its fourth week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $59.8 million. The film has earned another $33.1 million overseas, for a global total of $92.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Roman J. Israel, Esq.<\/b><\/i> earned $4.5 million and ranked ninth in its second week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $6.3 million. The film does not appear to have been released overseas yet.<\/p>\n<p>And <i><b>Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri<\/b><\/i> earned $4.4 million and ranked tenth in its third week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $7.6 million. This film does not appear to have been released overseas yet, either.<\/p>\n<p>Next week brings us <i>The Shape of Water<\/i>, <i>Wonder Wheel<\/i> and several other limited releases.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small\">1.
