(Keynes is the great-great-grandson of the Darwins, and he is also the father of Skandar, who plays Edmund in the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/01\/inklings-article-archive.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Narnia<\/a><\/i> movies.) The film will portray Charles as \u201ca man torn between his love for his deeply religious wife and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place.\u201d If memory serves, Bettany previously played a 19th-century naturalist who said it was possible to believe in both God <i>and<\/i> evolution, in Peter Weir\u2019s <i>Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World<\/i> (2003), so it will be interesting to compare the two roles. \u2014 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/world\/news\/e3ic8fa818f78acd5771ec6931a7cf7615f\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">2.<\/a> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/bc-christian-news-september-2008.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Man on Wire<\/a><\/i>, a documentary about Philippe Petit\u2019s illegal high-wire walk between the World Trade Centre\u2019s twin towers in August 1974, is an excellent film on its own.  But starting today, those who see it in New York and Los Angeles may be in for a special treat, as \u201cselect screenings\u201d will be followed by <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000G1R3Z8\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Man Who Walked Between the Towers<\/a><\/i> (2005), an animated short about Petit\u2019s famous feat that is narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal and based on Mordicai Gerstein\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0761317910\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">children\u2019s book<\/a>.  Let us hope that the short will be attached to screenings in other cities, too \u2014 or, failing that, that it will be included as a bonus feature on the <i>Man on Wire<\/i> DVD. \u2014 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117991477.html?categoryId=13&amp;cs=1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Variety<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">3.<\/a> One of my favorite interviews, during my student newspaper days, was the one I did with Leon Gast just three days before he won his Oscar for <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00007ELEK\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">When We Were Kings<\/a><\/i> (1996); it\u2019s on page 11 of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.ubc.ca\/archives\/pdfs\/ubyssey\/UBYSSEY_1997_03_26.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this PDF file<\/a>.  That film concerned the \u2018Rumble in the Jungle\u2019, i.e. the famous boxing match that took place between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire in 1974.  But before the fighting, there was a massive, three-day concert that Gast\u2019s film could only briefly allude to.  Now, however, editor Jeffrey Levy-Hinte has taken Gast\u2019s remaining footage and crafted a documentary devoted to the concert itself, and the resulting film, called <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1277736\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Soul Power<\/a><\/i>, premiered last night at the <a href=\"http:\/\/tiff08.ca\/filmsandschedules\/films\/soulpower\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Toronto International Film Festival<\/a>. \u2014 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB122039730415792753.html?mod=rss_opinion_main\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">4.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0583292\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nicholas Meyer<\/a> \u2014 best known for writing and\/or directing three of the better <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/08\/yet-another-slight-hint-about-star-trek.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Star Trek<\/a><\/i> films, and for scripting a couple of Philip Roth adaptations \u2014 is now working on a screenplay about George Washington. \u2014 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/film\/news\/e3i66bd53726b7c8c35947535149cc965bd\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">5.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/michael-moore-vs-tenacious-canadians.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Michael Moore<\/a>\u2018s self-tribute documentary <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/two-michael-moore-films-in-one-year.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Captain Mike Across America<\/a><\/i> got pretty bad reviews when it premiered in Toronto last year.  That might explain why Moore has decided to bypass theatres altogether and release the film, for free and under an entirely different name, over the internet later this month.  Now known as <i>Slacker Uprising<\/i>, the film will be available to Americans and Canadians <a href=\"http:\/\/slackeruprising.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a> for three weeks, beginning September 23, and then it will be released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B001F2U6WY\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">on DVD<\/a>. \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/ap.google.com\/article\/ALeqM5iq7zxCXnBw7mBDppX7bdIuOPPVbAD9303QDO0\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Associated Press<\/a><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Time for some news about movies based in reality, sort of. 1.
