Remember The Way of the Wind<\/a><\/i>, formerly known as The Last Planet<\/a><\/i>?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the Jesus movie that Terrence Malick \u2014 the notoriously reclusive director of such films as 1978\u2019s Days of Heaven<\/i>, 1998\u2019s The Thin Red Line<\/a><\/i>, 2005\u2019s The New World<\/a><\/i>, and 2011\u2019s The Tree of Life<\/i> \u2014 shot three years ago. He\u2019s been tinkering with it in the editing room ever since, and there is still no word on when it might get released.<\/p>\n

But now, it seems, someone other than the filmmaker might have actually seen<\/i> it.<\/p>\n

Jordan Ruimy<\/a> says he has heard through the grapevine that \u201cthe film was screened for the Venice Film Festival a week or so ago and that it will also be screened for a major American film festival in a few weeks\u2019 time.\u201d<\/p>\n

So\u2026 is the film finished? Or is Malick showing a not-quite-finished-yet version of his film to interested festival programmers? (Even if the film didn\u2019t change between now and the festivals, it could still change afterwards<\/i>; the version of The New World<\/i> that got a limited release and was shown to reporters in December 2005 was not<\/i> the version that got a wide theatrical release in January 2006.)<\/p>\n

Ruimy also notes that IndieWire<\/a> recently included the film in a list of movies that could be up for Oscars at the end of the year. Maybe they\u2019ve heard something, too\u2026?<\/p>\n

The cast reportedly includes G\u00e9za R\u00f6hrig as Jesus, Mark Rylance as Satan, Matthias Schoenarts as Peter, Aidan Turner as Andrew, and Bible-movie veterans Joseph Fiennes, Joseph Mawle, Douglas Booth, Selva Rasalingam, Tawfeek Barhom and Ben Kingsley \u2014 though as always, it remains to be seen who will survive Malick\u2019s editing process.<\/p>\n

The Venice film festival<\/a> takes place August 31 \u2013 September 10 this year, so if the film was<\/i> accepted there, we\u2019ll be hearing all about it in just two or three months.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
