{"id":782,"date":"2008-07-02T00:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-02T00:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2008\/07\/gods-titans-and-hundreds-of-greek-warriors\/"},"modified":"2008-07-02T00:28:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-02T00:28:00","slug":"gods-titans-and-hundreds-of-greek-warriors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2008\/07\/gods-titans-and-hundreds-of-greek-warriors.html","title":{"rendered":"Gods, Titans, and hundreds of Greek warriors."},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Some interesting developments on the ancient-Greek movie front.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117988133.html?categoryid=13&amp;cs=1&amp;nid=2562\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Variety<\/a><\/i> and the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/news\/e3ia502dead1ee42287cea8cf5e61077521\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> say Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, the producers of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/how-have-i-avoided-seeing-this-until.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">300<\/a><\/i> (2006), are now collaborating on <i>War of Gods<\/i>, \u201ca mythological tale set in war-torn ancient Greece, as the young warrior prince <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theseus\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Theseus<\/a> leads his men in a battle against evil that will see the gods fighting with soldiers against demons and titans.\u201d  The film will be directed by Tarsem Singh, director of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/what-are-best-baptism-scenes-in-film.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Cell<\/a><\/i> (2000), <i>The Fall<\/i> (2006) and the music video for R.E.M.\u2019s \u2018Losing My Religion\u2019 (1991).<\/p>\n<p>As it happens, there is another Greek-mythological epic in the works right now, over at Warner Brothers, namely the remake of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2004\/04\/clash-of-titans-another-film-gets.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Clash of the Titans<\/a><\/i> (1981) \u2014 and, thankfully, I think, this film has a new director since I last mentioned it <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/clash-of-titans-gets-director-ugh.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.  The old director was Stephen Norrington, who brought Sean Connery\u2019s career to a less-than-glorious end with <i>League of Extraordinary Gentlemen<\/i> (2003); the new director is Louis Leterrier, whose last job was this summer\u2019s okay but basically unremarkable reboot of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/hulk-sequels-cross-overs-geography.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Incredible Hulk<\/a><\/i>.  <i>This<\/i> Greek-mythic movie concerns <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perseus\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Perseus<\/a>, who \u201cmust overcome a series of obstacles to save his beloved Princess Andromeda, including cutting off the serpent-tressed head of Medusa, who can turn a man to stone with a single glance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collider.com\/entertainment\/news\/article.asp\/aid\/8353\/tcid\/1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Collider<\/a> got the producers of <i>300<\/i> to reveal last week that they are actually talking to writer Frank Miller and director Zack Snyder about making a sequel, or prequel, or something, to that movie.  This could be difficult, since nearly everybody who mattered was dead by the end of that film, but who knows.  My friend <a href=\"http:\/\/balconyfool.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/30\/300-more-becomes-official\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Paul Christian Glenn<\/a> has some fun thoughts on the possible directions a sequel might take.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some interesting developments on the ancient-Greek movie front.
