{"id":799,"date":"2008-06-23T18:11:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-23T18:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2008\/06\/the-new-version-of-the-new-world\/"},"modified":"2008-06-23T18:11:00","modified_gmt":"2008-06-23T18:11:00","slug":"the-new-version-of-the-new-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2008\/06\/the-new-version-of-the-new-world.html","title":{"rendered":"The new version of The New World."},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><a href=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_MwnH1kpbPRM\/SGBLKzx252I\/AAAAAAAABq8\/TO9cB50eDIw\/s1600-h\/newworld3-a.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"cursor:pointer;cursor:hand\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_MwnH1kpbPRM\/SGBLKzx252I\/AAAAAAAABq8\/TO9cB50eDIw\/s400\/newworld3-a.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\"><\/a><br><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Warner Brothers, which recently <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/is-quebec-provincial-government-going.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">took over<\/a> the New Line library of films, issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/portal\/site\/google\/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20080623006035&amp;newsLang=en\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">press release<\/a> today stating that they will release an \u201cextended cut\u201d of Terrence Malick\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/new-world-and-its-music.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The New World<\/a><\/i> (2005) on October 14:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This edition of the critically-acclaimed, Oscar\u00ae-nominated epic recreating the turbulent first days of the new America now features more than 30 minutes of never-before-seen footage, heightening the viewing experience with more battles, more intensity and more visual splendor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hollywood-elsewhere.com\/2008\/06\/longest_world_y.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jeffrey Wells<\/a> adds the detail that this new version of the film will be 172 minutes long, or almost three hours.<\/p>\n<p>So, that makes three versions of the film out there:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"disc\">\n<li>The 149-minute version shown to critics in December 2005, and briefly to audiences in Los Angeles and New York so that it would qualify for the Academy Awards; this version has never been released to DVD in North America, though I understand it is available as part of a two-disc package <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/01\/newsbites-stiller-malick-sundance.html#2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">in Italy<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li>The 135-minute version released to theatres everywhere in January 2006, and then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000ESSUL4\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">on DVD<\/a>.
