1.<\/a> Vancouverites, mark your calendars. Silent Light<\/a><\/i>, the Carlos Reygadas film about a love triangle among Mexican Mennonites<\/a>, is coming to the VanCity Theatre<\/a> June 5-12.<\/p>\n

2.<\/a> Oscar-winning documentarian Errol Morris<\/a> tells the Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> he wants to make a comedy next \u2014 a scripted<\/i> comedy. Morris has been making documentaries for decades, ever since Gates of Heaven<\/a><\/i> (1978), but this would be only his second dramatic film, following The Dark Wind<\/a><\/i> (1991). Meanwhile, Paul Arthur<\/a> and Kyle Smith<\/a> have posted responses to Morris\u2019s newest film, Standard Operating Procedure<\/a><\/i>, that critique it from different angles.<\/p>\n

3.<\/a> Disney and Pixar have revealed their slate<\/a> of animated films coming out between now and 2012. Among the bigger surprises: Pixar is making a sequel to Cars<\/a><\/i> (2006), their lowest-grossing film since A Bug\u2019s Life<\/a><\/i> (1998) \u2014 does anybody really want this? \u2014 and Disney is adapting King of the Elves<\/i>, a fairy tale written by Philip K. Dick<\/a>, of all people. Amid Amidi<\/a> at Cartoon Brew comments on the slate as a whole:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s interesting to note that all of the Pixar films have one individual with top billing as director, while the Disney features are structured to have two directors per film. That certainly can\u2019t be coincidence. As Disney regains its footing, hopefully they\u2019ll discover individuals within the organization whose personal vision is strong enough to carry a film by itself.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

4.<\/a> Slate<\/a> and the Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> have taken their own sneak peeks at the script for Oliver Stone\u2019s W<\/a><\/i>, with the latter inviting responses from four George W. Bush biographers.<\/p>\n

5.<\/a> CT Movies editor Mark Moring has interviewed Douglas Gresham<\/a> in anticipation of next month\u2019s release of The Chronicles of Narnia:<\/a> Prince Caspian<\/a><\/i>, and suffice it to say that Gresham does not do much to instill any sort of confidence in fans of the book. Meanwhile, Walden Media president Michael Flaherty talks to TheHighCalling.org<\/a> about the Narnia<\/i> movies \u2014 and also about the in-development film version of The Screwtape Letters<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n

6.<\/a> Ron Reed<\/a> passes on the news that Murray Stiller\u2019s documentary Nailin\u2019 it to the Church: Religious Satire and the Gospel According to the Wittenburg Door<\/i> \u2014 presumably the same project that was once known as Jesus Makes Me Laugh<\/a><\/i> \u2014 will be showing at the Regent College<\/a> chapel in Vancouver April 21.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
