Today, the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/news\/e3ic073882b8f49872be4dfc8f5a8afa946\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says the movie is a go \u2014 and it will be co-produced by Disney\/Pixar and Warner Brothers:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The story centers on a college student who begins to investigate the murder of his father, uncovering a web of deceit that has left the city vulnerable to the sort of fire that breaks out when the Great Earthquake of 1906 hits San Francisco.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The historical <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/san-francisco-earthquake-in-film-and.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">San Francisco earthquake<\/a> (or at least its aftermath) was one of the first major natural disasters to be caught on film; the video below shows footage that was taken from a streetcar shortly before and after the earthquake took place:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"San Francisco 1905 - 1906 (short form)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nHqpHf_Znzs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nHqpHf_Znzs\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a> if the video file above doesn\u2019t play properly.<\/p>\n<p>A dramatization of the earthquake also formed the special-effects centrepiece of the Clark Gable movie <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000F7CMQI\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">San Francisco<\/a><\/i> (1936) \u2014 produced only 30 years after the real thing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfmuseum.org\/hist1\/song.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">reportedly<\/a>, survivors of the earthquake got sick and left the theatre during this sequence):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;San Francisco&quot; Earthquake\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VAoNDihnfbc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VAoNDihnfbc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a> if the video file above doesn\u2019t play properly.<\/p>\n<p>The slightly earlier film <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0022775\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Frisco Jenny<\/a><\/i> (1932) concerns a survivor who goes on to live in a \u201cbawdy house\u201d, and reportedly has an impressive special-effects sequence of its own, too.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One year ago, I mentioned that Brad Bird \u2014 the Oscar-winning director of The Iron Giant (1999), The Incredibles (2004) and Ratatouille (2007) \u2014 was thinking of making his live-action debut, and Pixar\u2019s, with a movie about the San Francisco earthquake called 1906.
