Click here<\/a> for the newest trailer for Pixar\u2019s WALL-E<\/a><\/i>. The graphics look fantastic, of course, but the story<\/a> \u2014 more of which is revealed here than in any previous trailer \u2014 remains something of a mystery<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Incidentally, the bit with the bra reminds me of something I read in Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/i> \u2014 way, way back in 1992 \u2014 about the making of Disney\u2019s Aladdin<\/a><\/i>, and the improv that Robin Williams did there:<\/p>\n

Williams was especially fertile extemporizing as still another character, the narrator whose comic sales pitch (\u201cLook combination hookah and coffeemaker!\u201d) opens the movie. \u201cWe brought Robin in, pulled the sheet off a bunch of props and let him go to town,\u201d says Goldberg. Sometimes he went a few towns too far. \u201cHe pulls up a bra and comes out with, \u2018Look at this, a double slingshot!\u2019 Then he looks at it kind of pensively and says, \u2018I should have called her.\u2019 We almost used it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One wonders if that would have been going \u201ctoo far\u201d nowadays!<\/p>\n

MAR 13 UPDATE: Jim Hill<\/a> looks at how this trailer downplays \u201cthe more controversial aspects\u201d of the movie\u2019s \u201csocial satire\u201d.<\/p>\n

MAR 14 UPDATE: Chris Thilk<\/a> finds \u201cJudeo-Christian overtones\u201d in this trailer that, I must admit, never occurred to me \u2014 though I have previously noted the character named EVE<\/a> and the implicitly spiritual, even theological, distinction<\/a> made in an earlier trailer between what WALL-E was \u201cbuilt\u201d for and what he was \u201cmeant\u201d for.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
