Finding God in the Bible: What Crazy Prophets, Fickle Followers and Dangerous Outlaws Reveal about Friendship with God<\/a>.<\/p>\nThere is a surprising fact that most readers of the Bible don\u2019t think about. That fact is this: Most of the people whom God used mightily in both Old and New Testaments did some pretty bad things in their lives.<\/p>\n
David was a murder and an adulterer.<\/p>\n
Moses was a killer.<\/p>\n
Paul was a murderer.<\/p>\n
Jacob was a swindler and manipulator.<\/p>\n
Rahab was a harlot.<\/p>\n
Peter committed hypocrisy and did the unthinkable. He betrayed his Lord three times in Jesus\u2019 darkest hour.<\/p>\n
Yet God chose to use all of these people \u2014 and others like them \u2014 to do amazing exploits for Him and advance His kingdom on earth.<\/p>\n
In Darren\u2019s Wilson\u2019s new book, he takes us on a journey through the Bible with an eye to its various characters and highlights how imperfect \u2014 and sometimes weird \u2014 they were.<\/p>\n
And yet he makes the point that God was their friend and He did wonderful things in and through their lives. This despite their mistakes, shortcomings, eccentricities and screw ups.<\/p>\n
As far as the writing style goes, this is a very easy-to-read book. Darren uses hipster language and street verbiage. Young readers will especially enjoy it.<\/p>\n
For instance, I think this is the first book where Moses is described as a \u201cstud.\u201d<\/p>\n
So if you like ultra-casual reads, you\u2019ll enjoy this book.<\/p>\n
In short, Wilson\u2019s book is a swift reading journey into the Bible, highlighting various characters and their weaknesses and then showing how God became their friend and used them anyway.<\/p>\n
Hope for all people. Including Christians.<\/p>\n
While reading the book, I was thinking this is a nice introduction to the Old Testament to people who aren\u2019t familiar with it. Especially Millennials.<\/p>\n
