Back in the 90s, I purchased the NIV Study Bible by Zondervan edited by Kenneth Barker. This Bible was all the rage back then. I found it to be decent, but not great.<\/p>\n

Recently, however, Zondervan has revised the NIV Study Bible<\/a> under the editing leadership of D.A. Carson. It\u2019s almost 1,000 pages longer than the previous incarnation, much meatier, and cosmetically far more appealing.<\/p>\n

I think this is an excellent study Bible.<\/p>\n

Tim Keller says of it, \u201cThis NIV Zondervan Study Bible is a tremendous tool for informed Bible reading and study. I highly recommend this publication.\u201d<\/p>\n

The study notes were compiled by team of over 60 contributors from a wide range of evangelical denominations and perspectives. The full-color maps, charts, photos and diagrams are excellent.<\/p>\n

In addition, a single-column setting of the Bible text provides maximum readability.<\/p>\n

At 2880 pages, this is the most comprehensive study Bible in the NIV version that I\u2019m aware of.<\/p>\n

Every book of the Bible has an extensive introduction that speaks to the books\u2019 authorship, date, audience, historical setting and purpose, literary features, theological significance, along with a concise outline. The back of the Bible includes articles on various spiritual topics from various authors.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that no study Bible is going to be a magic bullet for understanding every text. And readers will disagree with some of the interpretations. Nor can any study Bible be as in-depth as a Bible commentary.<\/p>\n

That said, the NIV Zondervan Study Bible is a great resource to have along with other study Bibles and commentaries to get a better handle on what the ancient text says.<\/p>\n
