As we exchanged comments, I felt a certain deja vu\u2013I felt that I was conversing with someone from my past. I was raised in a version of Christianity in which, for all intents and purposes, we worshipped the Bible as God\u2019s inerrant Word and God\u2019s final statement on everything. Many of the vehicles in our church parking lot had a bumper sticker that said \u201cGod Said It. I Believe It. That Settles It.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10810\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/766\/2017\/09\/God-said-it.jpg\" alt=\"God said it\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"825615470\"><\/p>\n<p>Although I left that version of Christianity decades ago, I carry its influences wherever I go. I wrote an essay about parallels between this simplistic statement of faith and various trends in our current political world recently; it was published in\u00a0<em>Bearlings Online<\/em>, a publication of the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research, about a year ago. It strikes me that it bears repeating.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"COs5ka9uxo\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/collegevilleinstitute.org\/bearings\/god-said-it\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">God Said It.
