I almost didn\u2019t use the word \u201ckill\u201d in the headline, but it\u2019s right here in this Politico article<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Barack Obama\u2019s aides and advisers are preparing to center the president\u2019s reelection campaign on a ferocious personal assault on Mitt Romney\u2019s character and business background, a strategy grounded in the early-stage expectation that the former Massachusetts governor is the likely GOP nominee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The dramatic and unabashedly negative turn is the product of political reality. Obama remains personally popular, but pluralities in recent polling disapprove<\/a> of his handling of his job, and Americans fear the country is on the wrong track. His aides are increasingly resigned to running for reelection in a glum nation. And so the candidate who ran on \u201chope\u201d in 2008 has little choice four years later but to run a slashing, personal campaign aimed at disqualifying his likeliest opponent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, this is not a terrible surprise.\u00a0 I mean, we know that the President\u2019s mishandling of the economy is driving many of his former supporters right into the arms of the candidate who has demonstrated his fiscal responsibility time and time again.\u00a0 Before he ran for Governor, he helped\u00a0 launch the very successful Bain Capital \u2014 which helped launch such successful franchises as Staples and the Sports Authority \u2014 and then led a turnaround at Bain Consulting. He also saved the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City which, prior to his leadership, were mired in debt and corruption but subsequently became one of the most successfully-run Games in memory.\u00a0 And then, he turned around debt ridden Massachusetts!<\/p>\n

Obama plans to paint an ugly picture of his most likely opponent.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

So, I get why the President is worried:<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney,\u201d said a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While the strategy is understandable, it\u2019s sad that they\u2019re going to try to make Gov. Romney \u2014 a successful businessman, leader, husband, and father \u2014 appear \u201cweird,\u201d and \u201cout of touch\u201d and\u2026\u00a0 wait for it\u2026\u00a0 wait for it\u2026\u00a0 a flip flopper.\u00a0 However, be ready for the onslaught.\u00a0 And instead of giving credence to the White House\u2019s accusations, just take it as a compliment.<\/p>\n

They are horrified and scared.\u00a0 And with an unemployment rate at 9.2%, they should be.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
