Dress Dare — Day 1

Dress Dare — Day 1 May 24, 2010

Last week, I came across the Dress Dare Challenge posted by the ladies at Defining Beauty.

I love this newly discovered blog. They are young, Catholic women writing about how to define true beauty and encouraging ways to think more about what it means to be feminine in our world. Wonderful!

About the challenge, they say, “Our goal is to discover, inspire and encourage femininity, so dare to be different and don’t worry too much about fashion.”

Of course, I love fashion, so I will do my best to marry feminine, modest skirts and dresses with things that are cute and fashionable. (read: no jean jumpers here!)

The challenge over there started May 1 – May 31. Of course I missed the boat! So I decided to just start late and extend it. This version of the challenge, which is really the same thing, is starting today May 24 and will go until June 24!

Elizabeth at That Married Couple is on board, as well as Katie over at Song of a Sunflower. Ladies, we’re going to need some encouragement, so make sure you check out their blogs and let them know how wonderful it is to take this little challenge on!

I’m going to post once a week (or so) about how the challenge is going, any reflections I have from wearing skirts everyday, and of course some pictures of outfits from the week! Look for posts on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Now, just because seeing pictures of beautiful skirts and dresses makes me excited to wear skirts and dresses, I have to post some of the beautiful, vintage-inspired goodies I found online this weekend! (All dresses can be found at Mod Cloth)

I’d love this with some pearls and little kitten heels

for Church.

I love the color of this dress — it would be perfect for a

nice date night out!

Hello! Mad-Men. I love the neckline and sillhouette of this one!

I’d wear this to the State Fair — or some other appropriate picnic!

Everyone needs a nice sailor dress, right?

Quintessential summer sun/party dress. This might be my favorite one!

No vintage-inspired collection is complete without polka-dots!

Swoon. I love dresses. It’s probably for the best that we don’t have unlimited resources, or I would buy so, so many dresses. As it is, after work today I’m going to the charming thrift store in town to look for some comfy spring/summer skirts. I never feel bad shopping there because it’s technically recycling, and I can/have gotten three skirts for 15 dollars — beat that Target!

It’s not too late if you’d like to jump into the Dress Dare Challenge. Of course, if you can’t participate personally, all encouragement is appreciated!

Happy Monday — Let the Dress Dare begin!
