We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nof the magnificent enterprise that is God\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
Nothing we do is complete, which is a way of saying<\/p>\n
that the kingdom always lies beyond us.<\/p>\n
No statement says all that could be said.<\/p>\n
No prayer fully expresses our faith.<\/p>\n
No confession brings perfection.<\/p>\n
No pastoral visit brings wholeness.<\/p>\n
No program accomplishes the church\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n
No set of goals and objectives includes everything. <\/p>\n
It may be incomplete,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nbut it is a beginning, a step along the way,<\/p>\n
an opportunity for the Lord\u2019s grace to enter and do the rest.<\/p>\n
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nbetween the master builder and the worker.<\/p>\n
We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nWe are prophets of a future not our own.<\/p>\n
This is what we are about.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nWe plant the seeds that one day will grow.<\/p>\n
We water seeds already planted,<\/p>\n
knowing that they hold future promise.<\/p>\n
We lay foundations that will need further development.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nWe provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.<\/p>\n
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nin realizing that. This enables us to do something,<\/p>\n
and to do it very well. <\/p>\n
