From Geek Goes Rogue TV Editor Zach W. Lorton, who is finally feeling like all those years investing in <\/em>Breaking Bad has paid off\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

So, I caught the Emmy awards Sunday night, and there wasn\u2019t much to go on about. \u00a0Jimmy Fallon\u2019s presentation was one of the simplest, yet most well-performed gags of the night, only to be capped off by Will Ferrell, who came out on stage with his three kids, dressed in vacation duds, and turned his presentation of the Best Comedy Series and Best Drama Series awards into a trip in the car. \u00a0Both brilliant bits.<\/p>\n

But I have a feeling there were some upsets and surprises, and I\u2019m going to be paralleling my rundown with the predictions put forth by the folks over at\u00a0Paste magazine<\/a>. \u00a0Some good stuff, some head-scratchers (seriously, automated blog editor, how can \u201cscratchers\u201d be a word that\u2019s not in your dictionary?), and some just desserts are found here.<\/p>\n

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Serie<\/strong>s<\/strong>
\nPaste\u2019s Prediction \u2014 Bryan Cranston,\u00a0Breaking Bad<\/em>
\n<\/em>Paste\u2019s Should-Winner \u2014 Bryan Cranston,\u00a0Breaking Bad<\/em>
\n<\/em>Actual Winner \u2014 Jeff Daniels,\u00a0The<\/em> Newsroom
\nCranston has already won the Emmy 3 times, and season 4 didn\u2019t include his best performances. \u00a0But I think a lot of people were puzzled as to why Jeff Daniels won when there were so many other great performances by other actors. \u00a0Jon Hamm? \u00a0Kevin Spacey? \u00a0Come on\u2026<\/p>\n

\n<\/em>Completely appropriate, and\u00a0<\/strong>very deserving, given Gunn\u2019s performance in last season. \u00a0Frankly, it\u2019s high time.<\/p>\n

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series<\/strong>

\n<\/em>Paste\u2019s Should-Winner \u2014 Aaron Paul,\u00a0Breaking Bad<\/em>
\n<\/em>Actual Winner \u2014 Bobby Cannavale,\u00a0Boardwalk Empire
\n<\/em>I was really hoping Jonathan Banks would have been graced by Emmy. \u00a0His slow, smoldering portrayal of Mike Ehrmantraut was one of the highlights of Breaking Bad<\/em>. \u00a0\u201cYOU are NOT the guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/em>I love TBBT, but I was a little surprised at this one. \u00a0I was kind of thinking Louis C.K. would take the prize, but I guess it\u2019s gonna take another season or two for the academy voters to realize what they\u2019ve got.<\/p>\n

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
\n<\/strong>Paste\u2019s Prediction \u2014 Julie Bowen, Modern Family<\/em>
\n<\/em>Paste\u2019s Should-Winner \u2014 No one that was nominated
\n<\/em>Actual Winner \u2014 Merritt Wever,\u00a0Nurse<\/em> Jackie
\nMerritt Wever\u2019s acceptance speech was the best of the night (\u201cThanks so much, thank you so much. \u00a0I gotta go. \u00a0Bye.\u201d). \u00a0However, I\u2019ve not seen episode one of Nurse Jackie<\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>but Wever added her own flavor to New Girl<\/em> as Elizabeth, an old flame of Schmitt\u2019s whose romance rekindles. \u00a0She\u2019s hilarious.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy<\/strong> Series

\n<\/em>It\u2019s great to see Tony Hale get such a deserving award, especially since he spent so long as part of a show as unique and beloved as Arrested Development<\/em>. \u00a0Thank God\u00a0<\/strong>Veep\u00a0<\/em>has given him the right vehicle.<\/p>\n
