British evangelist J. John has re-formulated the Ten Commandments in an effort to make them more relevant for today.\u00a0 His effort is getting some good press, and some 600 churches in England have bought into the program.\u00a0 This article<\/a> tells all about it.\u00a0 You do have to, literally, buy into the program, because the commandments are presented, discussed, and taught in a DVD program called Just 10 for Churches<\/em> (not available, at least yet, in the USA, as far as I can tell).<\/p>\n

The article linked above tells about the new commandments but doesn\u2019t give a list of the entire 10.\u00a0 So thanks to the SOWER blog for digging them out, giving the traditional version (with Protestant numbering) followed by the new formulation:<\/p>\n

1. You shall have no other gods before Me\u2026\u201cknow God\u201d<\/p>\n

\n2 You shall not make for yourself a graven image\u2026\u2026 \u201ccatch your breath\u201d\n

3. You shall not use the Lord\u2019s name in vain\u2026\u2026..\u201ctake God seriously\u201d<\/p>\n

4. Remember the Sabbath\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u2026\u201clive by priorities\u201d<\/p>\n

5. Honor your father and mother\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u2026..\u201ckeep the peace with your parents\u201d<\/p>\n

6. You shall not murder\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026 .\u2026\u2026..\u2026.\u201cmanage your anger\u201d<\/p>\n

7. You shall not commit adultery\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.\u201caffair-proof your relationships\u201d<\/p>\n

8. You shall not steal\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u201cprosper with a clear conscience\u201d<\/p>\n

9. You shall not bear false witness\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.\u2026.\u201chold to the truth\u201d<\/p>\n

10. You shall not covet\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u201cfind contentment\u201d<\/p>\n
