To make up for inviting evangelical pastor Rick Warren to give the prayer at the inauguration, Barack Obama has invited the gay episcopal bishop Gene Robinson to offer a prayer at an earlier inauguration event. See this<\/a>. What gets me, though, is this comment from the bishop:<\/p>\n

Bishop Robinson said he had been reading inaugural prayers through history and was \u201chorrified\u201d at how \u201cspecifically and aggressively Christian they were.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very clear,\u201d he said, \u201cthat this will not be a Christian prayer, and I won\u2019t be quoting Scripture or anything like that. The texts that I hold as sacred are not sacred texts for all Americans, and I want all people to feel that this is their prayer.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
