On July 19, NASA took advantage of a rare alignment that allowed its Cassini spacecraft to photograph the Earth and Moon in the same field of view as Saturn and its rings. . . .<\/p>\n

Launched in 1997, Cassini reached Saturn in 2004, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit that world. Soon after arriving at Saturn, Cassini released the Huygens probe, which landed on Saturn\u2019s largest moon Titan in 2005 after parachuting through Titan\u2019s atmosphere. Cassini has continued to explore Saturn and its moons, sending back photos and data. What was originally a 4-year mission has been extended through 2017.Rarely do we get to see the Earth across nearly a billion miles of space. It\u2019s a chance to reflect on the beauty and fragility of our small world, as well as the durability and achievement of the amazing spacecraft we have sent to explore Saturn.<\/p>\n
