MTV News<\/a> reports that \u201cmore than half of this year\u2019s crop of finalists \u2014 including Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Kris Allen, Scott MacIntyre, Matt Giraud and Lil Rounds \u2014 either have a strong affiliation with the church or are worship leaders in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reporter wonders why that is. Well, consider that just about the only place in the culture that anybody sings anymore is in church! That and baseball games. (That observation is not original with me.) Also Karaoke bars. But that\u2019s about it. <\/p>\n

I remember when I was a kid my parents would have friends over for dinner and afterwards they would gather around the piano and sing 1940\u2019s standards. Now, we get our music from electronic devices and listen to other people sing, rather than sing ourselves. Except at church. <\/p>\n

Maybe the church will once again become the major patron and source of the arts; in this case, of singing.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
