Hillary Clinton has almost been anointed by the media as the next president, and she certainly looks that way in the polls right now.\u00a0 I suspect that the Democratic nomination is hers if she wants it, which she surely will.\u00a0 But I think Mrs. Clinton will not wear well when the general public is exposed to her over and over again in a presidential campaign.\u00a0 She lacks, I believe, the likeable factor.\u00a0 And as her book tour is showing, she is gaffe-prone and tone-deaf.\u00a0 Also, her big area of experience\u2013running American foreign policy, as Secretary of State\u2013is the most obvious disaster-area of the Obama administration.<\/p>\n

1) She\u2019s just not that good at campaigning.<\/strong> If the last two gaffe-prone weeks have reminded us of anything about Hillary, it\u2019s that she\u2019s a mediocre politician at best. Her shortcomings are significant: she can be stiff and wooden in public; she lacks the aura of a natural politician; she\u2019s not a great public speaker, and she can come across as politically flat-footed and tone deaf \u2014 as she did with her \u201cdead broke\u201d response to a rather benign question about relating to the financial challenges of the average voter. People still seem to believe that the Clinton name is synonymous with political skill, but that assumption is only half-true: If Hillary possessed even half of Bill\u2019s political talent and acumen, she wouldn\u2019t have lost to Barack Obama in 2008.<\/p>\n
