In 2017, two years from now, we will be marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, occasioned by Martin Luther posting his 95 Theses.\u00a0 There will be lots of festivities, especially at the Luther sites in Germany.\u00a0 Those look to include performances of the opera and play about Katie Luther, the Reformer\u2019s wife, which was commissioned and is performed by friend-of-this-blog Lori Lewis.<\/a><\/p>\n

She has proposed a symbolic Katherine von Bora\/Lucas Cranach reunion tour (the artist being the one who took her in after she escaped from the convent and who arranged her marriage with his friend Martin).\u00a0 That is to say, she is proposing that the Cranach blog would join with her friends of Katie network to sponsor a trip to Germany in 2017, seeing all of the Luther sites, taking in a Katie performance, and doing other fun and inspiring things along the way.\u00a0 She and I would lead the group, making use also of local guides, and a great time will be had by all.<\/p>\n

\n

Through the years of this blog, a number of you readers and commenters have expressed the wish to meet each other in person, rather than just virtually.\u00a0 This could be that opportunity.\u00a0 And what a way to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation!<\/p>\n

We have no details yet, no estimates of the cost or time-frame, and the event would be two years away.\u00a0 Right now, we just need to gauge the interest.\u00a0 Would any of you be interested in doing this?\u00a0 If so, please make a comment to that effect, perhaps also giving considerations or preferences you\u2019d like us to think about in designing such a tour.\u00a0 (For example, would you rather it be one week or two weeks or what?\u00a0 Is the summer best, or would you rather shoot for the actual anniversary, October 31?\u00a0 And how many would be in your party?)\u00a0 Nothing that you say will be construed as an actual commitment.\u00a0 If there is enough interest, we\u2019ll design the tour, price it out,\u00a0 put out more information, and make it possible to sign up over the next couple of years.\u00a0 So stay tuned.<\/p>\n
