Lincoln Chafee dropped out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.\u00a0 With Jim Webb also quitting and Joe Biden deciding not to run, that leaves only three candidates:\u00a0 Hillary Clinton; Bernie Sanders; and Martin O\u2019Malley.<\/p>\n

Actually, Sanders is not a Democrat but an Independent.\u00a0 So that leaves only two Democrats, and pretty smooth sailing for Hillary Clinton.\u00a0 The Republican candidates would do well to further cull their ranks, if they want to stop Donald Trump or Ben Carson.<\/p>\n

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee ended his long-shot bid for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, he announced Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you know, I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace,\u201d Chafee said at the DNC\u2019s annual Women\u2019s Leadership Forum in Washington. \u201cBut after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

The Democrat declared his presidential campaign in June, shortly after announcing that he had formed an exploratory committee.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons Chafee decided to drop out now: Hillary Clinton had \u201ca good week,\u201d he said, one where former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb dropped out of the race, Vice President Joe Biden declined to run and she withstood hours of testimony on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously it was a good week for Secretary Clinton,\u201d Chafee told reporters after his speech. \u201cShe did well in the debates and then Senator Webb got out, Vice President Biden declined to join the race, she did well in the Benghazi hearing and Gov. Chafee got out of the race.\u201d<\/p>\n
