A new television series, Of Kings and Prophets<\/a>, will premiere on ABC next week on Tuesday, March 8, at 10:00 pm. ET. \u00a0It will dramatize the lives\u00a0of David and Saul and, presumably, if the series is renewed, Solomon and the other kings of Israel. \u00a0Those are absolutely compelling stories\u00a0from the\u00a0Bible.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the good news. \u00a0The bad news is that the writers\u00a0say that they will push the envelope \u201cas far as we can\u201d when it comes to sex and violence. \u00a0It is true that the Biblical accounts of the kings are\u00a0unflinching when it comes to telling about their sins. \u00a0The Bible, however, is able to refer to the sex and the violence that are part of their story without being prurient. \u00a0I somehow doubt that this show will achieve that.<\/p>\n

I wonder if the writers will also push the envelope when it comes to acknowledging the God of Israel, who is the main figure in all of these stories. \u00a0I somehow doubt that, as well.<\/p>\n
