They do not want themselves to be exposed to anything incompatible with\u00a0their materialistic worldview, not allowing anything to the contrary to be so much as uttered. \u00a0Even the news account from a British publication, excerpted after the jump, feels that it must refer to Intelligent Design as a \u201cpseudo-science.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/scientific-study-paper-creator-intelligent-design-plos-one-creatorgate-a6910171.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Scientific paper which says the human hand was designed by a \u2018Creator\u2019 sparks controversy | Science | News | The Independent<\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"premium-content\">\n<blockquote><p>A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/scientists-find-a-link-between-low-intelligence-and-acceptance-of-pseudo-profound-bulls-a6757731.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">scientific paper<\/a>\u00a0on the movement of the human hand has faced strong criticism for referring to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/pope-francis-declares-evolution-and-big-bang-theory-are-right-and-god-isnt-a-magician-with-a-magic-9822514.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u2018Creator\u2019<\/a> throughout.<\/p>\n<p>The paper, titled: <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0146193\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u2018Biomechanical characteristics of hand coordination in grasping activities of daily living\u2019<\/a> was written by a team of four\u00a0researchers, three from Huazhong University in China, and one from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>Published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/chauvet-cave-paintings-a-volcanic-eruption-from-36000-years-ago-as-captured-by-prehistoric-man-a6805001.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">PLOS ONE<\/a> journal, the fairly conventional study looked at the mechanics of how we grasp things, and involved the measurement of the\u00a0hand movements of 30 participants.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-block inline-block-related-single inline-block-right\">However, members of the scientific community have demanded the paper be retracted, for its several perceived references to\u00a0the pseudoscientific\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/poll-claims-that-no-icelanders-under-25-believe-god-created-the-universe-a6816226.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">theory of intelligent design<\/a> and a possibly divine \u2018Creator\u2019.<\/div>\n<p>In the opening sentences of the study, it claims the link between muscles and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/chimpanzee-gestures-deciphered-in-world-first-after-scientists-decode-foot-stomps-and-hand-flings-9583455.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hand movements<\/a> is the product of \u201cproper design by the Creator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later, it says\u00a0human hand coordination \u201cshould indicate the mystery of the Creator\u2019s invention,\u201d and concludes by again claiming\u00a0the mechanical architecture of the hand is the result of \u201cproper design by the Creator.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"mediaembed\">Naturally, the multiple references to intelligent design in\u00a0a reputable journal like PLOS ONE have\u00a0stoked anger in the scientific community, and many people, including researchers who work as editors for the publication, are now calling for it to be retracted.<\/figure>\n<blockquote><p>The paper\u2019s authors appeared to acknowledge their mistakes in the comments section,\u00a0saying the references to the \u2018Creator\u2019 were down to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/gadgets-and-tech\/news\/google-says-russian-translation-error-that-referred-to-politician-as-sad-little-horse-was-result-of-a6800976.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">translation errors<\/a> rather than a belief in intelligent design.<\/p>\n<p>Other comments on the paper called its publication \u201cunacceptable\u201d, and criticised the \u201csloppy job\u201d done by the reviewers and editors.
