I am now in Copenhagen, where I have an internet connection. \u00a0The conference I spoke at was held at an Inner Mission Bible college, where Christian young people go after they graduate from high school and before they go to University. \u00a0Here they study Christian doctrine, the Bible, and apologetics in a way designed to help them withstand the onslaught on their faith that they will soon encounter. \u00a0I think that\u2019s a very good thing to do.<\/p>\n

This week all of the students went on a mission trip to Ethiopia, where they will work with Mekane Yesus, one of the largest Lutheran churches in the world that has just left the liberal Lutheran World Fellowship and is working to rebuild its theological infrastructure (with the help of the LCMS). \u00a0So the 150 or so Inner Mission workers and I stayed in their dorms, which do not have internet. \u00a0(\u201cWhile they are here,\u201d I was told, \u201cwe want them to concentrate on God.\u201d \u00a0 Another good idea.)<\/p>\n

So I wasn\u2019t able to blog about a lot of topics that came up. \u00a0Nancy Reagan\u2019s death. \u00a0More primaries. \u00a0More controversies. \u00a0More craziness.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m always being asked about the American elections and Donald Trump. \u00a0The Danes realize whether they like it or not\u2013and whether we like it or not\u2013that the United States really does play an important role in the world and that the President of the United States really is the leader of the free world. \u00a0They can\u2019t imagine Trump\u2013with his belligerence against other countries, his ignorance, and his hostile personality\u2013playing that role.<\/p>\n

In defense of my country, I explained that the American people are frustrated with politicians of both parties. \u00a0Republicans are rebelling against the establishment by voting for Trump; Democrats are rebelling against the establishment by voting for Bernie Sanders. \u00a0The Danes could understand that and can sort of \u00a0share that feeling. \u00a0But Trump would be a disaster, which I had to agree with.<\/p>\n

They were very amused that Sanders wants to make the United States like Denmark. \u00a0They seemed to understand, if Sanders and his supporters don\u2019t, that it\u2019s not that simple.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been learning a lot about Christianity in Denmark, which many observers dismiss as purely secularist. \u00a0Not so. \u00a0These Christians are zealous, creative, and very Lutheran.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be blogging about what I\u2019ve learned here in the days ahead. \u00a0I\u2019ll write about the large numbers of Muslim immigrants who are coming to Christ in Denmark, as they are in Germany, and I\u2019ll give you some fascinating details I\u2019ve learned from Inner Mission workers who have been working with them. \u00a0I\u2019ll also write about how Inner Mission does evangelism and carries out other ministries in their supposedly secularist society, in a way that can give us American Christians some good ideas.<\/p>\n

So I am now in the lap of luxury in Hotel Hebron<\/a> (a business owned by Inner Mission) in one of the most beautiful and most interesting cities in Europe. \u00a0I have all day Thursday\u00a0to explore. \u00a0(We did the touristy things last Fall when we were here before. \u00a0I think I\u2019ll go on a museum crawl.)<\/p>\n

I catch a plane on Friday for the good old U.S. of A. \u00a0(Denmark is 7 hours ahead of U.S. Central Standard, which rules out\u00a0livin\u2019 on\u00a0Tulsa time.)<\/p>\n

Anyway, thanks for sticking with the blog while I\u2019m gone. \u00a0I actually have another trip to make as soon as I get back, but things should get back to normal at the Cranach mission control center\u00a0before too long.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
