Williams, \u00a0<\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2016\/06\/05\/episcopal-priest-lgbtq-people-will-revitalize-christianity\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Episcopal Priest: LGBTQ People Will \u2018Revitalize Christianity\u2019<\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In her essay\u2014excerpted from the book titled <em>Queer Virtue: What LGBTQ People Know About Life and Love and How It Can Revitalize Christianity<\/em>\u2014Edman laments that in Christian scripture and hymnody, pride is \u201ccondemned as a glaring and destructive human sin,\u201d when in her mind it is a good and virtuous attitude.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe complexity of these dynamics makes many of us queers keenly aware that our Pride is born of something deep within that connects us to one another, and also to something bigger than all of us,\u201d Edman writes, which might indeed be God.<\/p>\n<div id=\"premium-content\">\n<p>As biblical examples of pride, Edman enumerates several figures, including Moses and the Virgin Mary, as well as Abraham and the prophet Samuel.<\/p>\n<p>She fails to mention, however, that the same Bible refers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Numbers+12%3A3\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Moses<\/a> as \u201cthe humblest man on the face of the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also somehow misses the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke%201:46-55&amp;version=NRSVACE\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">text<\/a> where Mary says that God \u201chas scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts,\u201d and bringing down the powerful, has \u201clifted up the lowly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It does seem oddly consistent, however, that an attempt to turn homosexual relations into a good and Godly act would be paired with an effort to rehabilitate pride and turn the sin of Satan into a virtue.<\/p>\n<p><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2016\/06\/05\/episcopal-priest-lgbtq-people-will-revitalize-christianity\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">[Keep reading. . .]\u00a0<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Go <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2016\/06\/04\/how_lgbtq_love_saves_christianity_a_priest_explains\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a> for the Salon article, which discusses other ways LGBTQ ideology should change and \u201crevitalize\u201d Christianity.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote><\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An LGBTQ theologian, apparently thinking of \u201cgay pride\u201d parades, wants Christianity to change its teaching that pride is a sin and turn it instead into a virtue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1281,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11,15,41,47],"tags":[4560,1290,4561],"class_list":["post-24290","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-church","category-ethics","category-sex","category-theology","tag-lgbtq-theologians","tag-liberal-theology","tag-pride"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Turning pride from a sin to a virtue<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"An LGBTQ theologian, apparently thinking of &quot;gay pride&quot;
