We were once again asked to pretend that Islamic terrorism materializes in a vacuum that has absolutely nothing to do with <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.new.spectator.co.uk\/2015\/11\/the-first-of-the-storm-translation-of-islamic-state-statement-after-paris-attacks\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">theological beliefs<\/a> of the majority of people in the Middle East and thus nothing to do with brutality and oppression that prevail in the region. . . .<\/p>\n<div id=\"premium-content\">\n<div>\n<p>it\u2019s true that most refugees are fleeing genuine and horrifying violence. But it is also true that many refugees bring with them \u2014 through their culture, ideology, and faith \u2014 the same conditions that bred the violence in the first place. It has nothing to do <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/daveweigel\/status\/665550246101934080\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">with what immigrants \u201clook\u201d like or <\/a>how many <a href=\"http:\/\/whatever.scalzi.com\/2015\/11\/14\/paris\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">superb and moral Muslims there are in the world<\/a> (because there are many) and everything to do with what these refugees believe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">Many refugees bring with them \u2014 through their culture, ideology, and faith \u2014 the same conditions that bred the violence in the first place.<\/div>\n<p>The vast majority of Muslims aren\u2019t terrorists, but in the contemporary world nearly all movements and ideas that produce political terrorism are birthed in Islamic communities that house mostly peaceful people. Mass immigration bolsters those communities with hundreds of thousands of new, unassimilated adherents in the middle of secular nations with belief systems that grate against Islamic worldview.
