As North Korea successfully develops its intercontinental ballistic missile capability, U.S. intelligence says it may have learned to\u00a0miniaturize nuclear warheads<\/a>, meaning they could be put on those missiles.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the UN has slapped new sanctions<\/a>\u00a0on North Korea, further provoking its crazed communist dictator Kim Jong-un, who has been making lurid\u00a0threats against the United States and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

Now President Trump has responded <\/a>in kind:<\/p>\n

\u201cNorth Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen . . . .They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kim Jong-un\u2019s response? \u00a0A threat to attack Guam.<\/a><\/p>\n

I know what some people are thinking. \u00a0Trump sounds just like Kim Jong Un! \u00a0Now both of our countries have irrational, out-of-control leaders! \u00a0They\u2019ll get into a p___ing contest that will escalate into another Korean war! \u00a0With nuclear weapons!<\/p>\n

But that would be\u00a0a ridiculous and offensive comparison. \u00a0Whatever you think of the president that America elected, he is a far cry from the neo-Stalinist\u2013and thus hard leftist\u2013dictator of Korea.<\/p>\n

I think Trump is just trying to get through to the North Korean leader by communicating in a language that he\u00a0uses himself and thus might understand.<\/p>\n

But the situation with North Korea is, indeed, something to worry about.<\/p>\n

Some say that we shouldn\u2019t take Kim Jong-un seriously because he is certifiably insane. \u00a0But a madman with nuclear weapons is far more dangerous than someone who is sane!<\/p>\n

Some, on the other hand, say that Kim Jong-un is not mad at all, but a calculating pragmatist who is playing the nuclear card to get international concessions. \u00a0That would be a more hopeful scenario, but still difficult to deal with.<\/p>\n

Here is an alarmed but plausible analysis from the UK Independent<\/em>: \u00a0\u201cThis is How Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump Could Start World War III.<\/a>\u201d \u00a0The author, Sean O\u2019Grady\u2013who believes Kim Jong-un is sane\u2013makes the point that wars often get started with a seemingly small catalyst, as was the case with World War I, as the assassination of the Austrian archduke led to a domino effect of ever-greater catastrophe. \u00a0O\u2019Grady explains the dominos that are in place to tip each other over in this case.<\/p>\n

To his credit, he isn\u2019t alarmist over Trump, who, he says, is doing the best he can in responding to North Korea\u2019s nuclear ambitions and is acting in similar ways to other U.S. presidents.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: \u00a0North Korea says now it will finalize plans this months to shoot test missiles\u2013presumably not nuclear-armed\u2013to land near<\/em> Guam.<\/a> \u00a0But it will not carry them out\u00a0until Kim Jong-un gives the order. \u00a0Still, the missiles would fly over Japan, which will doubtless put that nation into a panic and maybe a nuclear program of its own.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
