Today we leave for Australia, where we will be through the month of March, coming back a few days after Easter.\u00a0 Our daughter, who lives in Adelaide with her husband the seminary professor, is having another baby!\u00a0 We\u2019ll be there to help with the other \u201cgrandies\u201d (as they call grandchildren over there), attend the baptism, and enjoy our home-away-from-home down under.<\/p>\n
This will mean a two-hour drive to Oklahoma City, an hour flight to Dallas, a two-and-a-half hour layover, a 17 hour flight to Sidney, a 13 hour layover, and a two hour flight to Adelaide.\u00a0 So that will mean a journey of 37.5 hours, with 20 hours in the air.<\/p>\n

I actually like that 17 hour flight to Australia.\u00a0 Qantas has a seat-back video system with a choice of hundreds of movies.\u00a0 I typically watch about six each way.\u00a0 This lets me catch up on all of the recent movies that I\u2019ve missed, which is nearly all of them.\u00a0 Sometimes I will devote myself to classics.\u00a0 (Once I binge-watched all of the Roger Moore James Bond movies.)\u00a0 And often I find new and obscure films that I enjoy greatly.\u00a0 Or TV shows.\u00a0 (I discovered \u201cFlight of the Conchords\u201d on one of these trans-oceanic flights.)<\/p>\n
I have found in my other trips that I can usually keep the blog going, so you may not notice too many disruptions.\u00a0 (I have a few posts scheduled to come up while I am en route.)\u00a0 I may not be able to post quite as many, and I may miss some days, so if I do, don\u2019t be alarmed.<\/p>\n
And there might be some odd timing issues.\u00a0 Adelaide time is 16 hours 30 minutes ahead of our Oklahoma Central Time.\u00a0 That is to say, it is a day ahead, with our American day being night over there, and Australian night being American day, with just a few hours of overlap.<\/p>\n
