As the Mueller investigation draws to a close, perhaps not living up to Democrats\u2019 expectations, the House of Representatives is starting an even bigger investigation of President Trump.<\/a><\/p>\n

Led by New York Congressman Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, the investigation will go over some of the same ground as the Mueller investigation, but also scrutinize Trump\u2019s real estate business.\u00a0 The emphasis will be not so much collusion with the Russians but \u201cabuses of power,\u201d \u201ccorruption,\u201d and \u201cobstruction of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Rep. Nadler has already formally requested documents from 60 individuals and offices, including Trump\u2019s family members, the Justice Department, the White House, and Trump\u2019s business records.<\/p>\n

Now the Mueller investigation has been accused of being biased, but the special prosecutor has to work under certain legal processes and constraints.\u00a0 But the Nadler investigation is quite open about its bias and its agenda.<\/p>\n

Listen to what Rep. Nadler says about the purpose of his committee\u2019s investigation.\u00a0 From the Associated Press<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to initiate investigations into abuses of power, into corruption and into obstruction of justice,\u201d Nadler said. \u201cWe will do everything we can to get that evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he believed Trump obstructed justice, Nadler said, \u201cYes, I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nadler isn\u2019t calling the inquiry an impeachment investigation but said House Democrats, now in the majority, are simply doing \u201cour job to protect the rule of law\u201d after Republicans during the first two years of Trump\u2019s term were \u201cshielding the president from any proper accountability.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWe will do everything we can\u201d to get evidence of abuses of power, corruption, and obstruction of justice?\u00a0 Does that sound like an objective inquiry?\u00a0 And here Rep. Nadler says that he already believes that Trump committed the crime, the existence of which the committee is supposedly trying to determine.\u00a0 The findings of the committee sound like they are already determined, though the hearings have not yet commenced.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere<\/a>, Rep. Nadler, when asked if he was aiming at impeaching the president, said the following:<\/p>\n

\n
\u201cWe do not now have the evidence sorted out and everything to do an impeachment. Before you impeach somebody you have to persuade the American public that it ought to happen. You have to persuade enough of the opposition party voters, the Trump voters.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
So the purpose of the investigation is not to determine whether or not \u201chigh crimes or misdemeanors\u201d worthy of impeachment took place.\u00a0 That they did so seems to be taken for granted.\u00a0 Rather, the purpose is \u201cto persuade the American public that it ought to happen.\u201d<\/div>\n

By the chairman\u2019s own admission, this investigation will be a show trial<\/a>, defined as a proceeding in which the guilt of the accused has already been determined.<\/p>\n

Any impeachment proceedings in Congress, by the way, would be led<\/a> by the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; namely, Rep. Nadler.<\/div>\n
