alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"511\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our country has been torn apart by culture wars.\u00a0 Next up:\u00a0 education wars.<\/p>\n<p>So says Stanley Kurtz in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/the-greatest-education-battle-of-our-lifetimes\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Greatest Education Battle in Our Lifetimes.<\/a>\u00a0 He says that the benign-sounding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coons.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sens-coons-cornyn-and-reps-delauro-cole-blumenauer-introduce-bipartisan-bicameral-bill-to-expand-access-to-and-strengthen-civics-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">Civics Secures Democracy Act<\/a>, with its conservative co-sponsors currently being considered in Congress, is a trojan horse for mandating critical theory, gender ideology, and political indoctrination into the nation\u2019s public schools.<\/p>\n<div id=\"premium-content\">\n<p>On the pretext of offering billions of dollars of grants to local schools to improve the teaching of history and civics, the bill will promote \u201cAction Civics\u201d\u2013which gives credit for making children participate in political protests\u2013revisionist history, and other politicized subjects favored by the current administration\u2019s Department of Education, which will dole out the grants.\u00a0 Kurtz believes that a provision in the bill that would require national achievement tests to cover topics would have the effect of establishing a national curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>This is only one example of a concerted effort by the educational establishment, both on the federal and the state level, to impose \u201cwoke\u201d ideology in public school classrooms.\u00a0 We looked at the \u201cmodel curriculum\u201d for Aztec studies being considered in California (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/geneveith\/2021\/03\/prayer-to-aztec-gods-in-public-schools\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/geneveith\/2021\/03\/the-human-sacrifice-deniers\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 For examples of how this indoctrination plays out in the teaching of mathematics, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/03\/woke-math-is-coming-to-a-classroom-near-you\/?utm_source=recirc-desktop&amp;utm_medium=homepage&amp;utm_campaign=hero&amp;utm_content=related&amp;utm_term=first\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An especially explicit and in-your-face initiative to turn schools into indoctrination camps is being implemented in Illinois, where the teacher certification process is <em>requiring<\/em>\u00a0teachers to, in the words of the program,\u00a0\u201cembrace and encourage progressive viewpoints and perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joy Pullman has written a searing critique of these new certification requirements in her Federalist article,\u00a0<a title=\"Your Kids Would Be Better Off Feral Than Going To Schools That Make Them Anti-American Racists\" href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/02\/25\/your-kids-would-be-better-off-feral-than-going-to-schools-that-make-them-anti-american-racists\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Your Kids Would Be Better Off Feral Than Going To Schools That Make Them Anti-American Racists<\/a>.\u00a0 Here she describes the new rules, by quoting from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasmoresociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Proposed-Reguations-to-ISBE-from-register_volume44_issue_37.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">actual text<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Directly oppose and undermine the concept of objective truth<\/strong>: \u201cUnderstand and value\u2026 that there is not one \u2018correct\u2019 way of doing or understanding something, and that what is seen as \u2018correct\u2019 is most often based on our lived experiences.\u201d This is an exercise in forcing people to affirm two contradictory things, as the rest of the requirements are extremely dogmatic, not open to any other \u201cway of doing or understanding something.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treat themselves and students as a determined product of their race, sex, and sexual behavior<\/strong>: \u201cRecognize how their identity (race\/ethnicity, national origin, language, sex and gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical\/developmental\/emotional ability, socioeconomic class, religion, etc.) affects their perspectives and beliefs about pedagogy and students.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Believe and preach cultural Marxist identity politics<\/strong>: \u201cAssess how their biases and perceptions affect their teaching practice and how they access tools to mitigate their own behavior (racism, sexism, homophobia, unearned privilege, Eurocentrism, etc.).\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agree the United States is systemically racist<\/strong>: \u201cunderstand that there are systems in our society that create and reinforce inequities, thereby creating oppressive conditions\u201d and \u201cwork actively against these systems.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support different behavior standards based on race<\/strong>: \u201cKnow and understand how a system of inequity creates rules regarding student punishment that negatively impacts students of color.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engage in and support cultural Marxist activism<\/strong>: \u201cBe aware of the effects of power and privilege and the need for social advocacy and social action to better empower diverse students and communities.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Push students into leftist activism<\/strong>: \u201csupport and create opportunities for student advocacy and representation in the content and classroom\u201d and \u201cCreate a risk-taking space that promotes student activism and advocacy.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Introduce and promote adult sex behaviors and gender identity confusion<\/strong>: \u201cImplement and integrate the wide spectrum and fluidity of identities in the curriculum.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What got me especially was looking not only at these requirements that are being added, but also what requirements for teachers are being dropped.\u00a0 Looking at the text of the new rules, notice what has been literally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasmoresociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Proposed-Reguations-to-ISBE-from-register_volume44_issue_37.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">crossed out<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>Content Knowledge \u2013 The competent teacher understands the central concepts,\u00a0<\/del><del>methods of inquiry, and structures of disciplines and creates learning experiences\u00a0<\/del><del>that make the content meaningful to all students.<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>1) Knowledge Indicators \u2013 The competent teacher:<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>A) Understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, principles, and\u00a0<\/del><del>theories that are central to the disciplines in which licensure is\u00a0<\/del><del>sought.<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>B) Understands the processes of inquiry central to the discipline.<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>C) Understands how students\u2019 conceptual frameworks and their\u00a0<\/del><del>misconceptions for an area of knowledge can influence their\u00a0<\/del><del>learning.<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>D) Understands the relationship of knowledge within the discipline to\u00a0<\/del><del>other content areas and to life and career applications.<\/del><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><del>E) Understands how a student\u2019s disability affects processes of inquiry\u00a0<\/del><del>and influences patterns of learning.<\/del><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Yes, teachers in Illinois will no longer need to know the actual <em>content<\/em> of what they are teaching.\u00a0 Just have the correct political zeal.<\/p>\n<p>The linked text says these are \u201cproposed\u201d standards, but they have since been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralillinoisproud.com\/news\/local-news\/illinois-culturally-responsive-teaching-and-leading-standards-move-past-legislative-obstacles-isbe-pushes-back-on-criticism\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">approved<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kurtz, a scholar with the Ethics and Public Policy Institute, has also written a discussion and critique of Illinois\u2019 new teacher standards and cites similar efforts in other states.\u00a0 Read\u00a0<a Mandates Are Top Threat to U.S. Education.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Joy Pullman says that it would be better for your child to just go feral in the backyard, to be raised by wolves, to be a little Mowgli, than to go to a school like this.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-header__meta\">\n<div class=\"article-header__meta-byline\">In the meantime, expect a boom in Christian schools and
