{"id":8657,"date":"2011-06-08T05:00:04","date_gmt":"2011-06-08T09:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.geneveith.com\/?p=8657"},"modified":"2011-06-08T05:00:04","modified_gmt":"2011-06-08T09:00:04","slug":"30-of-health-plans-to-be-dropped-under-obamacare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/geneveith\/2011\/06\/30-of-health-plans-to-be-dropped-under-obamacare\/","title":{"rendered":"30% of health plans to be dropped under Obamacare"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>Another reason the new national health care bill will have a hard time working:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Once provisions of the Affordable Care Act start to kick in during 2014, at least three of every 10 employers will probably stop offering health coverage, a survey released Monday shows.<\/p>\n<p>While only 7% of employees will be forced to switch to subsidized-exchange programs, at least 30% of companies say they will \u201cdefinitely or probably\u201d stop offering employer-sponsored coverage, according to the study published in McKinsey Quarterly.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 1,300 employers says those who are keenly aware of the health-reform measure probably are more likely to consider an alternative to employer-sponsored plans, with 50% to 60% in this group expected to make a change. It also found that for some, it makes more sense to switch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least 30% of employers would gain economically from dropping coverage, even if they completely compensated employees for the change through other benefit offerings or higher salaries,\u201d the study says.<\/p>\n<div id=\"premium-content\">\nIt goes on to add: \u201cContrary to what employers assume, more than 85% of employees would remain at their jobs even if their employers stopped offering [employer-sponsored insurance], although about 60% would expect increased compensation.\u201d\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/firms-halting-coverage-as-reform-starts-survey-2011-06-06\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Firms to cut health plans as reform starts: survey \u2013 MarketWatch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So if that happens, the Democrats will have no choice but to nationalize the whole thing, if they can. \u00a0Or would it be worth it to be paid more money and buy one\u2019s own health insurance, especially if the government makes it cheap?<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote><\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another reason the new national health care bill will have a hard time working: Once provisions of the Affordable Care Act start to kick in during 2014, at least three of every 10 employers will probably stop offering health coverage, a survey released Monday shows.
