That Baby\u2019s actions,<\/p>\n
Are really cute?<\/p>\n
Imagine then,<\/p>\n
That you have not one,<\/p>\n
But two little babies,<\/p>\n
On the run.<\/p>\n
We start the morning,<\/p>\n
With warm oatmeal,<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t going well,<\/p>\n
I begin to feel.<\/p>\n
Then one grabs the spoon,<\/p>\n
Excited and squealing.<\/p>\n
Where\u2019s the food gone?<\/p>\n
Onto the ceiling.<\/p>\n
Now they\u2019re both off,<\/p>\n
To the shoe rack,<\/p>\n
To chew and gnaw,<\/p>\n
And eat their snack.<\/p>\n
One takes Baba\u2019s leather,<\/p>\n
And makes it confetti,<\/p>\n
While the other sucks Mama\u2019s laces,<\/p>\n
As if they were spaghetti.<\/p>\n
I head to the couch,<\/p>\n
To review some Qur\u2019an,<\/p>\n
Hoping they won\u2019t follow me,<\/p>\n
And ruin my plan.<\/p>\n
Because every time I pause,<\/p>\n
To think of what\u2019s next,<\/p>\n
Four eyes look up,<\/p>\n
And try to object.<\/p>\n
The girls start whining,<\/p>\n
They want to read, too.<\/p>\n
I hand them some books,<\/p>\n
Then they\u2019re happy, and coo.<\/p>\n
Thinking they\u2019re now busy,<\/p>\n
I turn away,<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me read some Qur\u2019an,<\/p>\n
There\u2019s no need for me to stay.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few minutes later,<\/p>\n
I come back and I see,<\/p>\n
That the two books I gave them<\/p>\n
Are not two, but three.<\/p>\n
They have ripped them apart,<\/p>\n
And are eating in turn.<\/p>\n
They give me blank stares,<\/p>\n
\u201cNo cause for concern!\u201d<\/p>\n
The morning seems long,<\/p>\n
I lie on the floor,<\/p>\n
Can\u2019t take a real nap with these two,<\/p>\n
Not anymore.<\/p>\n
But I sleep, nonetheless,<\/p>\n
With the minutes ticking by,<\/p>\n
\u2018til some baby jumps on me,<\/p>\n
And makes my heart fly.<\/p>\n
I search the house to find,<\/p>\n
What they have been up to,<\/p>\n
I finally hit the kitchen,<\/p>\n
To watch feeding time at the zoo.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ve emptied the trashcan,<\/p>\n
Dirty tissues, peelings and pits,<\/p>\n
And are nibbling away,<\/p>\n
As I stand there having fits.<\/p>\n
I try to explain,<\/p>\n
That this really won\u2019t do,<\/p>\n
But my words are in vain,<\/p>\n
And I can\u2019t get through.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlright,\u201d I shout out,<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time for your naps!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had enough of this,<\/p>\n
My little gingersnaps.\u201d<\/p>\n
I plunk them in their cribs,<\/p>\n
As they squirm and they wiggle,<\/p>\n
I leave them for a while,<\/p>\n
Only to come back to a giggle.<\/p>\n
I decide they\u2019re not sleepy,<\/p>\n
And I fix them some lunch,<\/p>\n
It\u2019s obvious they just need,<\/p>\n
Something to munch.<\/p>\n
Very proudly I give them each,<\/p>\n
A warm potato pancake,<\/p>\n
And dreadfully realize,<\/p>\n
That it was a big mistake.<\/p>\n
For the pancakes are now,<\/p>\n
Sailing across the floor,<\/p>\n
With both making frisbees,<\/p>\n
Which is hard to ignore.<\/p>\n
After lunch I set them free,<\/p>\n
To watch where they go.<\/p>\n
What they\u2019ll get into next,<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t want to know.<\/p>\n
But I find out soon enough,<\/p>\n
When I see one of them chomp,<\/p>\n
Onto something black and crispy,<\/p>\n
That looks to be from a swamp.<\/p>\n
I take out the wings,<\/p>\n
Body, and head,<\/p>\n
And I pray and I hope,<\/p>\n
That it was already dead.<\/p>\n
I try really hard,<\/p>\n
To not have a sick attack,<\/p>\n
As I see that the legs,<\/p>\n
Have become her miswak.<\/p>\n
The day\u2019s not half done,<\/p>\n
And I\u2019m already inert.<\/p>\n
I sure hope all this,<\/p>\n
Is just a growth spurt.<\/p>\n
