<\/iframe><\/p>\nIt\u2019s been almost a week since I last reported on Mrs. Robin and her babies. They\u2019ll be venturing out of the nest soon! \u00a0May 27, 2014<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nOver in the other garage window, there\u2019s been lots of activity. The second egg hatched, I think on May 22:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1788\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1788\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/97\/2014\/05\/robins-morning-doves-007.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1788\" title=\"robins morning doves 007\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/97\/2014\/05\/robins-morning-doves-007-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1788\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Two baby morning doves, born May 21 & 22, 2014. I was surprised by the amount of downy feathers these babies had compared to the robins.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1787\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1787\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/97\/2014\/05\/robins-024.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1787\" title=\"robins 024\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/97\/2014\/05\/robins-024-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1787\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mrs. Morning Dove and one of her babies, at six days old,\u00a0May 27, 2014. The other one is squished underneath her.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAll of this activity in the nests means that soon the babies will try out their wings. The morning doves are fortunate that their first flight will land them square on top of the chicken coop, and from there they\u2019ll land in the yard of a house where no one presently lives.<\/p>\nThe robin babies, on the other hand, will land squarely in the driveway, where the dogs will be waiting to sniff, chase, and likely hurt them. So I\u2019m on high alert. <\/p>\nSo are Mr. and Mrs. Robin. The closer the babies get to flight, the more aggressive they are to me \u2013 squawking at me and dive bombing my head whenever I go near the garage, even if I\u2019m not looking at them. I\u2019ve tried to be as invisible as possible when taking pictures \u2013 using the zoom lens while I sit in a lawn chair, and when I\u2019m inside standing far back in the attic shadows and using the zoom. I\u2019ve only gone close to the window to take a photo when Mrs. Robin was already away from the nest. But clearly I\u2019ve been more intrusive than I thought.<\/p>\nI saw one of the birds sitting on the edge of the nest just a few minutes ago, so it looks like someone might take flight soon.
