Former president Barack Obama claimed, \u201cIslam has been woven into the fabric of America since its founding<\/a>.\u201d This is both true and false.<\/p>\n

It is true in the sense that Islam posed a threat to America\u2019s early existence. The North African Islamic Barbary Pirates\u00a0had been attacking the west since the 13th century and began attacking newly American ships after the War of Independence. Algerian Dey Muhammad declared war on the United States, creating a catalyst for two separate wars the U.S. fought against Tripoli (1801-1805) and Algiers (1815-1816).<\/p>\n

In fact, their threat was so great that delegates to the newly formed American government urged their states to ratify the U.S. Constitution. They believed their survival depended on a strong federal union and a strong Navy to protect them from the Algerians.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0The Federalist<\/em>\u00a0No. 24, Alexander Hamilton asserted without a \u201cfederal navy . . . of respectable weight . . . the genius of American Merchants and Navigators would be stifled and lost.\u201d<\/p>\n

Likewise, John Jay, in his letters, wrote, \u201cAlgerian Corsairs and the Pirates of Tunis and Tripoli\u201d would compel the feeble American states to unite, since \u201cthe more we are ill-treated abroad the more we shall unite and consolidate at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, We fight our country\u2019s battles, In the air, on land, and sea,\u201d became the U.S. Marine theme song after Marine Lieutenant Presley O\u2019Bannon who famously, tragically, and fearlessly, led Marines and mercenaries up the Nile River and across miles of desert to capture the Tripolitan port of Derna.<\/p>\n

Ironically, Barack Hussein Obama\u2019s ancestral legacy is rooted in the Arab-African slave trade that would have been very much involved in the Barbary campaign against the West\u2013the very enemies against which early Americans fought.<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s father and father\u2019s ancestors lived in the East African Arabic slave-trading region.<\/a> Anthropologists point to cultural, mythological, historical and geographical traits to identify the meaning of names. Within the Arabic-African lineage, the meaning of Barack Obama\u2019s name is rooted in Islam.<\/p>\n

\u201cBarack\u201d means \u201cAllah\u2019s blessing\u201d and is the name of the winged creature that brought the Muslim prophet Muhammad to \u201cParadise\u201d in his \u201cNight Journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hussein was not only Muhammad\u2019s grandson\u2019s name, but it indicates the status of Arab-African traders and entrepreneurs who sold non-Muslims as slaves.\u00a0\u201cObama\u201d in Swahili means \u201clion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s Arabic-African heritage is inextricably linked to Islam, which is inextricably linked to slavery. Muhammad\u2019s institutionalization of slavery of non-Muslims is described in\u00a0Sira of Ibn Ishaq<\/em>, among other texts.<\/p>\n

The buying and selling of people by non-African and non-Arab slave traders from Muslim wholesalers for 200 years represents a mere blip in the 1400-year legacy of Islamic slave trade.<\/p>\n
