\u201cSing Hallelujah to the Lord\u201d has emerged as a rallying cry among protesters, Reuters reports, as a way to protect them from authorities. \u201cReligious gatherings can be held without a permit in the financial hub,\u201d Reuters states.<\/p>\n

Mass protests in Hong Kong over the proposed \u201cFugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters\u201d bill have been going on for months. The bill would allow for the extradition of \u201ccriminals\u201d identified by Mainland China for trial from Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong a \u201cSpecial Administrative Region\u201d of China, has its own government and monetary system. Mainland China is ruled under the People\u2019s Republic of China since Hong Kong\u2019s sovereignty was transferred from the United Kingdom to China in 1997.<\/p>\n

On June 16, an estimated two million people filled the streets urging the government to formally withdraw the legislation. According to a Reuters<\/a> report, China has forbidden Hong Kong from withdrawing the bill.<\/p>\n

Peaceful gatherings have continued, calling for democracy throughout the region\u2013extending to communist Mainland China.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 23, Christians took to the streets to protest against the Hong Kong government and Communism<\/a>. They wore shirts stating, \u201cGod bless Hong Kong,\u201d singing, \u201cSing Hallelujah to the Lord,\u201d while holding hands.<\/p>\n

Their hand-holding chain was said to stretch for miles.<\/p>\n
