While a tornado tore through McCracken County, Kentucky, and ripped off the roof of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 40 preschoolers and 10 staff were inside.<\/p>\n

While the storm raged outside, the children sang songs like, \u201cJesus Loves Me\u201d and \u201cHe\u2019s Got the Whole World in His Hands\u201d inside. None were harmed.<\/p>\n

The EF2 tornado<\/a> carrying winds of up to 135 mph ravaged a 5-square-mile area.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod was definitely with us,\u201d preschool director Michelle Rushing told WPSD Local News 6<\/a>. \u201cThe secretary and I walked through the doors just as we heard our glass breaking and felt the suction sucking the roof off.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n\u201cWe didn\u2019t really realize what was going on,\u201d Toni Mathis, a teacher at the daycare, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpsdlocal6.com\/2019\/03\/15\/mt-zion-baptist-members-members-say-god-protected-them-from-tornado\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">told WPSD<\/a>. \u201cWe were singing with the kids. We just blocked out anything else that was going on and was occupied with making sure the kids were safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cI think it didn\u2019t really hit me until about 10 minutes after the tornado, after I left here, that \u2014 what could have happened, and why God was on our side, and why he was even with us moments leading up to the tornado,\u201d she said.<\/p>\nRyan Willcutt, a McCracken County sheriff\u2019s deputy who tried to get to the church but couldn\u2019t, said, \u201cI saw the trees coming up out of the ground and flying through the air and power lines coming up and laying down over the road. I just kind of put my head down covered my head and prayed for the best.\u201d<\/p>\nAnother preschool teacher, Lauren\u00a0Haneline,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpsdlocal6.com\/2019\/03\/18\/mt-zion-baptist-church-hopes-to-re-open-preschool-this-week\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">told WPSD,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cMy ears popped, and I knew this was it,\u201d she said. \u201cBut there was so much peace and a calming in that room. I\u2019ve never felt God\u2019s hands on me like I felt that day.\u00a0I knew we were going to be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cThe nursery, where the roof is gone. I mean, I have a door across the hallway, and if I just reached out that door, I could reach their door. It\u2019s that close \u2026 we really were protected by God.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cWhen you look at this building, and you see the destruction, and you recognize it had about 50 people in this facility when this hit and no one had a scratch on them, I think that is what really gives us the focus of what all of this tragedy is all about,\u201d Senior Pastor Wes Conner said.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"While a tornado tore through McCracken County, Kentucky, and ripped off the roof of the Mt.
