Geese heading south in an Iowa sky (Bob Sessions photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>As the slow turn of the year\u2019s wheel takes us into Advent, that time of reflection and introspection, the Holy Rover is going to be shifting gears.\u00a0 For more than a year I\u2019ve been posting items six-days-a-week, but the time has come for a break. The Holy Rover isn\u2019t retiring completely, but for the foreseeable future I will be posting items only occasionally as the spirit moves me.\u00a0 I still hope to tell you about books that interest me, show you pictures of what makes my heart sing, and reflect on\u00a0inner and outer journeys (and in January I\u2019m traveling to Istanbul and Ephesus in Turkey, two cities that I will love telling you\u00a0about).\u00a0<\/p>\n

That Time Again<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nThe hands of frost<\/p>\n
rust yellow mums,<\/p>\n
pick red pulp<\/p>\n
from the pockets<\/p>\n
of late tomatoes.<\/p>\n
Geese pulled away<\/p>\n
by important business<\/p>\n
honk as they pass<\/p>\n
overhead, pointing<\/p>\n
their chevrons south.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s time now to remove<\/p>\n
window screens,<\/p>\n
those permissive sieves<\/p>\n
of summer breeze,<\/p>\n
time to repeat<\/p>\n
wool socks and fleece,<\/p>\n
to turn life outside in,<\/p>\n
repair its seams,<\/p>\n
to live a hermit\u2019s life<\/p>\n
with heaps of books,<\/p>\n
nights of music,<\/p>\n
breathing space<\/p>\n
for dreams,<\/p>\n
with warm bread<\/p>\n
and a patient pot<\/p>\n
of soup<\/p>\n
that steams the glass,<\/p>\n
that snugs the rooms,<\/p>\n
that time of year again.<\/p>\n
