^{15\u00a0<\/sup>David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people. ^{16\u00a0<\/sup>Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder; ^{17\u00a0<\/sup>Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelek son of Abiathar were priests; Seraiah was secretary; ^{18\u00a0<\/sup>Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; and David\u2019s sons were priests.<\/em> -2 Samuel 8:15-18<\/p>\n}}}}

David was king, but he didn\u2019t lead alone. In addition to listing his victories, 2 Samuel 8 notes some of David\u2019s key men on his leadership team.<\/p>\n

Joab led the army. Jehoshaphat was recorder and was in charge of his day\u2019s equivalent of publicity and archives. Zadok and Ahimelek were the top priests. Seraiah was secretary, leading more like a Secretary of State than as an office assistant. Benaiah was over certain people groups and was also listed as one of David\u2019s mighty men. David\u2019s sons served as priests.<\/p>\n

David did not lead alone; his success required a team. Our stories may focus on the key leader, but no leader survives long on his or her own. God gives us these insights for our good today as well. Are you in a place of leadership or influence? Build a team around you. As you do, perhaps God will grant you great success too. But one thing is certain\u2013without a team, you won\u2019t be leading for long.<\/p>\n
