^{11\u00a0<\/sup>The word of the Lord came to Solomon: ^{12\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAs for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. ^{13\u00a0<\/sup>And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.\u201d<\/em> -1 Kings 6:11-13<\/p>\n}}}

The Lord\u2019s promises are good. In the case of Solomon, he was promised three things if he would follow God\u2019s decrees.<\/p>\n

First, God promised to fulfill his promise given to David. This included the legacy of leading Israel. Some also believe God had in mind the coming Messiah.<\/p>\n

Second, God promised to live among the Israelites. God not only gave leadership; he gave his very presence.<\/p>\n

Third, God promised not to abandon Israel. This was important, as the presence of the Lord remaining with God\u2019s people in the wilderness served as an example of his power, protection, and provision for them. Just as God had been with Moses, he would be with Solomon and provide strength to lead the nation.<\/p>\n

God\u2019s book is filled with promises to his people. Many of them apply to all believers, including you. Take time to read Scripture this day, reflecting on the Lord\u2019s goodness to you and how he had led you this far. He will never leave or abandon you.<\/p>\n
