^{6\u00a0<\/sup>She said to the king, \u201cThe report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. ^{7\u00a0<\/sup>But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. ^{8\u00a0<\/sup>How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! ^{9\u00a0<\/sup>Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord\u2019s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.\u201d<\/em> -1 Kings 10:6-9<\/p>\n}}}}

The queen of Sheba did not come from a background that worshiped the God of Israel. So when she gave praise to God while visiting Solomon in Jerusalem, it was a big deal. Why her sudden change of heart toward the Lord?<\/p>\n

Interestingly, she noted that the wealth of the kingdom and the wisdom of Solomon caused her to praise God. This is not much different from principles we find in the New Testament. First, Jesus said to live as salt and light so that our good deeds would cause others to give glory to our heavenly Father (Matthew 5:17-18). Second, the apostle Paul talked about using wealth to store up treasures in heaven (1 Timothy 6:17-19).<\/p>\n

Today, we are not only called to live content with what we have, but also to use the resources we do have to point others to God. When we do, God is honored and lives are changed, giving our own lives an opportunity to be part of God\u2019s work here on earth.<\/p>\n
