\"\"<\/a>The words of Jesus in Luke 7 offer powerful insight into the issue of forgiveness. We are told Jesus sat at a meal with a wealthy man in his community when a woman appeared and began washing his feet with tears. The guests thought to themselves,\u201dWhy is he allowing this? Doesn\u2019t he know what kind of woman she is?\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesus did know. He used this teachable moment to communicate a profound spiritual truth: Those forgiven much love much. I\u2019ll let the text of the account speak for itself. The key question for us today is this: Are we more like the forgiven woman or the meal\u2019s host? Those forgiven much love much.<\/p>\n

Christ forgives that we may love.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

36<\/sup> When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee\u2019s house and reclined at the table. 37<\/sup> A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee\u2019s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38<\/sup> As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.<\/p>\n

39<\/sup> When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, \u201cIf this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is\u2014that she is a sinner.\u201d<\/p>\n

40<\/sup> Jesus answered him, \u201cSimon, I have something to tell you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTell me, teacher,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

41<\/sup> \u201cTwo people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[c<\/a>]<\/sup> and the other fifty.<\/span> 42<\/sup> Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

43<\/sup> Simon replied, \u201cI suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have judged correctly,\u201d<\/span> Jesus said.<\/p>\n

44<\/sup> Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, \u201cDo you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.<\/span> 45<\/sup> You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.<\/span> 46<\/sup> You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.<\/span> 47<\/sup> Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven\u2014as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

48<\/sup> Then Jesus said to her, \u201cYour sins are forgiven.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
