$\"\"$ <\/a>Among the many responses to learning that I homeschool our two youngest sons. one of the more common is, \u201cI could never do that. \u00a0I wouldn\u2019t know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

I remember that feeling. \u00a0It was similar to the feeling I had when I bought my first house and had my first baby. \u00a0But just like with houses and babies, you figure it out as you go. \u00a0Or you don\u2019t, and you try to do better with the second one.<\/p>\n

Still, I thought it might be fun to write down what we do each day for a month. \u00a0I\u2019m curious to see what you all think after a month. \u00a0Will you be \u00a0more likely to join the two million homeschoolers in this country? \u00a0Or will you be staging an intervention to save the boys? \u00a0Either way, here goes..<\/p>\n

So what did we do today?<\/p>\n

We\u2019re still in holiday mode, so we didn\u2019t do a whole lot.<\/p>\n

In the morning, the boys did a few multiplication worksheets. \u00a0Then Zach drew two animals for his project about the \u00a0food web of the African safari. \u00a0Ezra edited a folktale he wrote last month. \u00a0Somehow, this took three hours. \u00a0Maybe that\u2019s because everything takes longer than I think it will. \u00a0Maybe that\u2019s because I decided to lower my coffee intake to one cup a day \u00a0in 2014 and was saving it for the afternoon, which meant I had no energy to help the boys get going. \u00a0Maybe it\u2019s because my sons are lazy and unmotivated. \u00a0I spent most of the morning thinking it was the latter and feeling extremely anxious about it.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, I went to a meeting with four homeschool moms to plan our schedules for the spring. \u00a0Zach drew two more animals while we were there, and then played with the other kids. \u00a0Ezra went to the dentist with Jeff.<\/p>\n

They came home at four, played an hour of mine craft, played outside in the snow for an hour, and shoveled a few times.<\/p>\n

These days, slow days in which not much gets done but kids are engaged in a few small projects, can be lovely if you are in the right frame of mind. \u00a0If you\u2019re not, and today I most definitely was not, they can leave you feeling like a failure.<\/p>\n

What keeps me going on day\u2019s like today? \u00a0Remembering our first days of homeschooling<\/a>. \u00a0And remembering that there\u2019s tomorrow.<\/a><\/p>\n
