charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><em>Guest Post: by Elizabeth Myer Boulton<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My mother was a nurse all her professional life which meant we grew up with graphic (and often hilarious!) dinner conversation, weird work hours, and the knowledge that we would have to be actively dying or bleeding to death before we could go to the Emergency Room.<\/p>\n<p>Now that I\u2019m a mother who actively sought out nurse midwives for labor and delivery and nurse practitioners for our family\u2019s medical care, I\u2019ve learned more about my mom than simply knowing that the 3-11pm shift took her away from me and forced my dad to make\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bchbbWsfDOA\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Swanson TV Dinners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In short, here\u2019s what I\u2019ve learned: nurses are amazing, mythical creatures who heal and hold up the world!\u00a0 Nurses are smart, compassionate, capable, tough as nails, and have the uncanny ability to tend not only the body but also the soul!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/333\/2016\/05\/heart-700141_640.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4298\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4298\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/333\/2016\/05\/heart-700141_640.jpg\" alt=\"heart-700141_640\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ask the new parents who have to leave their pre-mature baby in the hospital overnight for the first time \u2013 the only way they are able to leave the warmth of the neo-natal unit and walk out the door is because of NURSES.<\/p>\n<p>Ask the daughter whose angry and down right abusive father has finally gone into liver failure and his inability to drink vodka while tethered to machines has made him meaner than usual \u2013 the only way she is able to dawn the door of the hospital and sit by his bedside is because of NURSES.<\/p>\n<p>Ask anyone who has ever had a diagnosis and tried to translate and synthesize all the fast-paced medical jargon being thrown in their direction \u2013 the only way they are able to make any kind of sense of it is because of NURSES.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nursingworld.org\/FunctionalMenuCategories\/National-Nurses-Week-2016\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Nurse Week<\/a>\u00a0officially begins on National Nurses Day,\u00a0May 6th and ends on May 12th, which is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Florence_Nightingale\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Florence Nightingale\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0birthday.\u00a0 To show our appreciation to nurses everywhere (especially Janice Ruth Myer, my mom!), The SALT Project has made a fun, kitschy, and sweet little film to say, \u201cThank You\u201d to all the nurses in our lives!<\/p>\n<p>Without further ado, SALT\u2019s \u201cNurse Tribute\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Nurse Tribute\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/164320758?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay;
