It will be titled <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1KD8u9E\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>One Gospel for All Nations: A Practical Approach to Biblical Contextualization<\/em>.<\/a> When you write a book with that title, you\u2019re bound to hear questions like, \u201cSo, do you have an example of what you mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I do. In fact, that\u2019s the reason for this post.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">I have recently added <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">TWO<\/span> new gospel presentations to my blog.<\/span> <\/strong><\/em><\/span><em>Both are contextualized specifically for an honor-shame culture.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On <a title=\"resources\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">my Resources page above<\/a>, you\u2019ll find two gospel booklets (\u201ctracts\u201d).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-creator-king\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">The Creator King<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong><em>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">The Promises of God<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have both translations in both English and Chinese.<\/p>\n<p>The two presentations use different approaches. For each presentation, you will find . . .<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">A \u201cHow to Use\u201d guide<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">Two different bookmarks<\/a> designed to remind people when sharing the gospel with others.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/576\/2015\/04\/tpog-cover-e1428286846742.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6534\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/576\/2015\/04\/tpog-cover-e1428286846742.jpg\" alt=\"tpog-cover-e1428286846742\" width=\"371\" height=\"286\"><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, I have created <em>two<\/em> versions, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god-short-version\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">shortened booklet<\/a><\/strong> as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>full presentation<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, people need more than a one time 5-minute introduction in order to grasp and believe the gospel. Therefore, I\u2019ve also made two additions to the basic presentation that will give people more flexibility in how these booklets are used.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>First<\/strong><\/em>, I\u2019ve included a few brief questions to spur reflection and\/or discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Second<\/em><\/strong>, I\u2019ve included relevant biblical passages that support the ideas found in various parts of the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>These booklets (or \u201ctracts\u201d) are not designed merely to create converts; rather, they help us make disciples.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Evangelism that Makes Disciples<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s a reason it has taken me a while to write something like a gospel \u201ctract.\u201d Actually, there are multiple reasons. I haven\u2019t wanted to write something that would be seen as simply another tract among others. If ever I would write something like a typical tract, I wanted it to be different <em>in a meaningful way<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, I don\u2019t like calling <a title=\"The Creator King\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-creator-king\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Creator King<\/em><\/a> and <a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> \u201ctracts.\u201d I prefer \u201cgospel guide\u201d or \u201cgospel booklet.\u201d Here are a few principles that I wish more people would keep in mind when using and writing \u201ctracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> Tracts don\u2019t replace people.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In my view, tracts should be regarded as <em>introductions<\/em> to the gospel. They are mere <em>guides<\/em> that help people while in gospel <em>conversations<\/em>. Also, they need to <em>remind<\/em> people of key ideas after the face-to-face conversation is done.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> Propositions don\u2019t replace the story.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Many tracts mainly consist of a list of propositions that summarize the doctrine of salvation. However, no set of summary statements carries the same meaning of the biblical Story. As a result, it\u2019s hard for people to see the significance of presentations that come across overly philosophical and abstract.<\/p>\n<p>The gospel should present an entirely new view of the world. That is the work of the Story, not propositions.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong><em> Converts are not disciples.<\/em> <\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If we focus on doctrinal concepts but do not share a gospel shaped view of the world, we might produce a lot of converts but we will have difficulty making disciples.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGospel tracts\u201d routinely end with a \u201cprayer of salvation.\u201d They emphasize what we are saved <em>from<\/em>, and less what we are saved <em>for<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong> \u201cShort\u201d does not imply simple or substantial.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I often hear people interchange \u201cshort\u201d and \u201csimple\u201d as though they were synonymous. Not true. For example, a 5\u201310 minute story can make much more sense than 4 sentences lacking adequate context.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, our presentation can be short (and even simple) yet fail to include much in terms of substance. We may share truth yet miss the most central points of the gospel (as the biblical writers understood the gospel).<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong> We are saved into community, not merely from a community.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We proclaim an individualistic message when we primarily talk about individuals as though they didn\u2019t belong to various social groups. The gospel creates a kingdom community, which consists of all nations. Yet, individual focused presentations seem to give more emphasis on the fact that one is called mainly to \u201cgive up father and mother and brother . . . .\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Click on the links <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">the Resources page <\/a>for all the links (for both the Chinese and English).
