It\u2019s worth reading again.<\/p>\n<p>This single idea is the seed for both <a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em> <\/a>as well as <a title=\"The Creator King\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-creator-king\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Creator King<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Why do it <em>this<\/em> way?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Typical gospel tracts and presentations are extremely cursory and confusing for many people, especially those who have not heard the gospel before. In a sense, the presentations are so simplified that they are difficult to understand.<\/p>\n<p>They are <em>de<\/em>contextualized.<\/p>\n<p>Other tools have made serious efforts to share more of the Story (e.g. \u201c<a title=\"Critiquing Creation to Christ (C2C)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/2013\/04\/11\/critiquing-creation-to-christ-c2c\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">C2C<\/a>\u201d &amp; \u201c<a title=\"informal book reviews\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/other-helpful-stuff\/book-reviews\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">The Story<\/a>\u201d). The problem however is that they tend drastically to truncate the biblical narrative, largely cutting out most of God\u2019s revelation but omitting Israel.<\/p>\n<p>I think people don\u2019t give enough of the grand Story of the Bible. Doctrinal statements are simply signposts to the Story. They should not be confused with the Story itself. I\u2019m not talking about mere storytelling. I refer to the one overarching narrative about which all of Scripture testifies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-6048 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/576\/2015\/04\/tpog-final-pict-e1428927068405.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"TPOG final pict\" width=\"214\" height=\"183\"><\/a><a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> helps people put the gospel back into its biblical context. How so?<\/p>\n<p>I present the gospel in a way that is framed by the three major Old Testament covenants\u2013\u2013the Abrahamic, the Mosaic, and the Davidic Covenant. Without these covenants, the New Testament simply does not make sense. (I was first inspired to this through this questions when I say how Paul <em>equated<\/em> the Abrahamic covenant and the gospel in Gal 3:8).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Why <em>The Promises of God?<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"resources\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> has a <span style=\"color: #339966;\"><a style=\"color: #339966;\" title=\"The Promises of God  (short version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god-short-version\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>shorter version<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and a <span style=\"color: #339966;\"><a style=\"color: #339966;\" title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>full version<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. I have a few goals for both versions of the presentations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> narrates the grand story both in a <strong><em>balanced<\/em><\/strong> way and in proportion to the Bible\u2019s own emphases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> The presentation defines key terms and themes while also showing their interconnections. This is critical for giving people the sort of comprehension that reshapes <strong><em>worldview<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> It can be further utilized during the process of <strong><em>discipleship<\/em><\/strong>. If the truth be known, solid evangelism is the beginning of good disciple-making. If our evangelism doesn\u2019t make disciples (but only converts), then we have a problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> It shows believers how to <strong><em>interconnect<\/em><\/strong> the New Testament and Old Testament. It especially shows how Jesus fulfills Israel\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Why the pictures?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The pictures are symbolic of the various stages in the Story. They serve two purposes.<\/p>\n<p>First, they help people remember how to share the gospel story. The simple shapes can be drawn in the sand or on a napkin, which enables people to reproduce it from memory. The written words then become a script in their heads during a conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the pictures reinforce the Story for listeners and so make it easier for them to recall the story as well.<\/p>\n<p>Some presentations depend on limiting the number of statements or verses to 4\u20135. Others use alliteration. <a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> tells an integrated, coherent story but allows for easy recall because the pictures are simple and build on each other.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Long Enough to Make Sense<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Someone may object that <a title=\"The Promises of God  (full version)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jacksonwu\/resources\/the-promises-of-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Promises of God<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"The%20Creator%20King\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>The Creator King<\/em><\/a> are too long for the average person to recall.<\/p>\n<p>In truth, people everyday hear stories or watch movies with a lot more information that you\u2019ll find in these booklets. A number of details are simply for context and to establish tone.
